Justice Mission is a global organization that protects the poor from violence
throughout the developing world. International Justice Mission partners with
local authorities to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice,
restore survivors, and strengthen justice systems. The International
Justice Mission (IJM) Uganda is working to eliminate property grabbing in
Uganda by bringing rescue and restoration to individual victims, accountability
to their perpetrators, and transformation to the public justice system as a
whole.
The Volunteer Attorney (System Reform) will participate in trainings for
community and public justice system leaders, as well as provide logistical
support necessary for trainings and other events designed to end GBV.
- Support the development and
implementation of IJM’s training and sensitization efforts with community
members, Mukono Police, and District estate administration officials; - Assist with the coordination of
logistics for public Justice System trainings; - Support Training Team in conducting
trainings for Police Officers, LC Leaders, State Attorneys, Magistrates,
Civil Servants, church and community leaders, and members of the general
public; - Coordinate meetings with relevant
parties, attorneys and power actors; - Assist in hosting guests, visitors and
volunteers; and - Other duties and responsibilities as
assigned by the supervisor.
- The applicant for International Justice
Mission (IJM) Volunteer Attorney (System Reform) job placement must hold a
Degree in law. - A minimum of two years of experience as
a paralegal, legal assistant, public speaker, or teacher; - Excellent critical thinking, analysis,
and oral and written communication skills; - At least four years of experience as a
professional driver, mobilizer or teacher; - Valid driver’s license and experience
driving manual vehicle’s on rough terrain; - Knowledge of the geography and roads of
Kampala, Mukono and surrounding areas; - Fluency in English and Luganda, with
excellent writing and speaking in both; and - Computer literate with proficiency in MS
Word, Outlook and Excel. - Mature Christian faith as defined by the
Apostles’ Creed; - Passionate commitment to IJM’s mission
and values; - Professional in demeanor, appearance,
writing and oral communication; - Works well under stress with a sustained
positive attitude; - Exceptionally high level of honesty and
integrity; - Intelligent, organized, creative and
proactive problem solver; - Attention to detail, organized and
disciplined with priorities; - Ability to cooperate effectively in a
multi-cultural environment; and - This position requires a commitment to,
understanding of and compliance with IJM’s Mission, core values, and all
IJM-related policies.
