Sub Editor, Bukedde
incorporated as the New Vision Printing & Publishing Company Limited
(NVPPCL), started business in March 1986. It is a multimedia business housing
newspaper, magazines, internet publishing, television, radio broadcasting,
commercial printing, advertising and distribution services. NVPPCL is listed on
the Uganda Stock Exchange, with an expected turnover of over UGX 60 billion (FY
2010/2011).
Sub-Editor, Bukedde will edit stories and design compelling pages in order to
attract readers and advertisers ultimately resulting into circulation and
revenue growth.
- Edit stories in compliance with the newspaper’s house-style and
editorial policy so as to ensure credibility and reader appeal. - Ensure that the copy is free of libel and inaccuracies to avoid
legal suits and uphold company credibility, - Design attractive and easy-to-navigate pages that appeal to the
reader in order to grow copy sales and increase readership. - Determine the appropriate photos, graphics and other illustrations
by liaising with the Photo Editor and resource center to make stories more
understandable and appealing to the reader. - Peer review, proof-read and double-check own and fellow sub-editors’
pages to eliminate typos, general errors, content that may be in bad taste
and ensure the headlines best reflect the articles. - Manage deadlines by ensuring that pages, both at individual and
section level, are produced and delivered to prepress within prescribed
deadlines in order to grow copy sales. - Coach and interact with reporters to give them feedback on their
stories in order to minimize errors and help them write print- ready
stories. - Identify opportunities to engage the audience using different social
media platforms such as SMS, Facebook and Twitter to grow online audiences
and interactivity - Edit and upload stories, pictures, and videos to the website to grow
online audiences.
- The Sub Editor, Bukedde must hold a Degree or Diploma in Mass
Communication /Journalism/Education/Arts/Social Sciences - One to two years of working experience in a print media company
- Proficient in the Luganda language both written and spoken
- Excellent writing skills
- Proficient in the use of computer packages; MS Office, In-design,
Photoshop, illustrator - In-depth understanding of journalism ethics
- Vast knowledge in local and foreign news/ trends
- Appreciation of Art
