Job Summary: The
Gender Officer will be responsible for the implementation of activities under
the Foundational Purpose (Gender and Good Governance) to a high-quality
programming standard.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Implementation of activities found under the Foundational purpose in
    close collaboration with Community Planning Officers and Governance
    Officer.
  • Promote democratic and inclusive participation in governance,
    leadership and entrepreneurship related to community and economic
    development as well as environment
  • Input on Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) materials’
    development to promote positive gender norms.
  • Assist and lead the implementation team in ensuring that plans
    developed by the communities consider the different needs and interests of
    both sexes and contribute towards the creation of new opportunities for
    the disadvantaged women and girls.
  • Ensure integration of gender responsive programming by innovatively
    considering the specific needs of women.
  • Coordinate and support of all Gender activities and gender inclusive
    programming (e.g. couples joint decision making, promotion and training of
    women and youth leaders and empowerment of male change agents).
  • Participate in the development of work plans and provide reports as
    per the reporting schedules.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress of program activities.
  • Keenly analyze project implementation strategies and identify
    constraints to program success and provide timely recommendations.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the Caritas International Gender Officer job
    opportunity must hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree in Democracy and
    Development Studies, Sociology, Social Work or any gender related field.
  • Two years of experience as a Project Officer or four years’ experience
    as a with gender related programmes/projects. 
  • Excellent understanding of the gender dimensions in the development
    context and gender- sensitive development approaches.
  • Very good knowledge of approaches to women empowerment and gender
    equality.
  • First-hand knowledge of gender dynamics in Karamoja is a MUST
  • Profound understanding of the gender legal and policy framework in
    Uganda.
  • Demonstrated skills in networking, collaboration, education,
    community consultations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to pay keen attention to detail, to follow procedures and meet
    deadlines and a good – team player.
  •  Excellent computer skills
  • Willingness to work in any of the Nuyok programme duty stations.
  • Proven motorcycle riding skills and possession of a valid riding
    license.
  • Knowledge of local language (Nga’Karimojong) is a MUST.
