The International
Justice Mission is a global organization that protects the poor from violence
throughout the developing world. International Justice Mission partners with
local authorities to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice,
restore survivors, and strengthen justice systems.  The International
Justice Mission (IJM) Uganda is working to eliminate property grabbing in Uganda
by bringing rescue and restoration to individual victims, accountability to
their perpetrators, and transformation to the public justice system as a whole.
Job Summary:
The Communications Volunteer will support the Communications Specialist to
craft and publish the messages that will change the public’s perception of GBV
and prompt the public justice system to protect people from it.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
Message Development
  • Organize and maintain the communications
    archive.
  • Handle photography, videography and
    content development.
  • Coordinate advocacy events.
  • Support the Communications specialist
    with administrative responsibilities.
  • Support the Communications Specialist to
    coordinate the IJM Kampala’s overall mass media and communications
    strategy.
  • Adapt messaging for radio, newspaper and
    other forms of media publication in liaison with supervisor.
  • Draft, design, translate and edit
    printed materials for training, education, and awareness raising. 
  • Translate and contextualize messaging
    for audiences of various educational levels.
Support
  • Provide miscellaneous graphic and
    written resources to members of the IJM team.
  • Cooperate with members of the Casework
    team in developing stories about IJM cases.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for International Justice
    Mission (IJM) Communications Volunteer job placement must hold a
    Bachelor’s degree in Mass communication, Human Rights or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in media
    relations or related field.
  • Fluency in English and Luganda, with
    excellent writing and speaking in both.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS
    Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience with Adobe Suite
    (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or similar program
  • Mature Christian faith as defined by the
    Apostles’ Creed.
  • Passionate commitment to IJM’s mission
    and values.
  • Professional in demeanor, appearance,
    writing and oral communication.
  • Works well under stress with a sustained
    positive attitude.
  • Exceptionally high level of honesty and
    integrity.
  • Intelligent, organized, creative and
    proactive problem solver.
  • Attention to detail, organized and
    disciplined with priorities.
  • Ability to cooperate effectively in a
    multi-cultural environment.
  • This position requires a commitment to,
    understanding of and compliance with IJM’s Mission, core values, and all
    IJM-related policies.
