Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established following a request in 1988 from
the Uganda Government to the British Government for collaboration on the
research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired
Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related
research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies,
clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural
studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to
inform policy and practice that have led to a large number of scientific
publications in peer reviewed journals over time.
Accounts Officer – Payables will provide financial support to various aspects
in the accounts department. He/she is generally responsible for processing
invoices and issuing payments in line with organizational SOPs and Policies.
- Review all invoices for approval prior
to payment processing. - Prepare and set up invoices for payments
by electronic transfer (online) and by cheque. - Enter transactions into journals,
ledgers and other records for posting - Preparation of monthly vendor aged analysis
reports. - Monthly balance sheet reconciliation of
Accounts Payables and Prepaid Account. - Annual Review of suppliers’ list to
identify inactive suppliers. - Monitor utility invoices to ensure
payments are up to date. - Maintain files and documentation thoroughly
and accurately in accordance with company policy. - Prepare VAT file for tax invoices paid
within the month and photocopies for onward forwarding to URA. - Correspond with vendors and respond to
payment inquiries. - Assist with month end closure activities.
- Provide supporting documentation for
audits - Perform any other duties that may arise as delegated by the Senior
Accountant and or Finance Manager.

Degree in business administration or Accounting, Commerce or a related
field - Relevant experience working in a busy accounts environment in an
international or research organization. - Knowledge and experience working with MS Dynamics Navision ERP
packages - Should have cash and financial management skills
