education, clinical care and responsive program implementation in Uganda and
the United States.
About First Mile Community Health Program:
The First Mile
Community Health Program is a partnership between Mbarara University of Science
and Technology (MUST), and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). As a program,
First Mile aims to establish MUST as a premier academic medical center focused
on community-based healthcare delivery, research, and
innovation.  This will build on MUST’s strong relationships with 50
community-based lower-level health facilities in Western Uganda. 
Job Summary: The
First Mile Community Health Program Coordinator will work closely with the GHC
Monitoring and Evaluation staff member to collect and report data, and with the
GHC Finance staff to ensure appropriate accounting of all funds and spending.
The Program Coordinator will function under the direct supervision of the MUST
First Mile Assistant Program Director, and the MGH Global Medicine Site
Director. 
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of issues and trends in Community
    Health so as to be able to actively and meaningfully contribute to program
    development
  • Build and maintain partner relationships with MUST Community Health
    Department, GHC Global Health Collaborative, and MGH through regular
    electronic and personal communication.
  • Coordinate the regular and timely collection, management, and
    reporting of program data for outcome measures
  • Supervise the coordination of program activities, including the
    Community Health Solutions Sprint, Community Health Continuing Medical
    Education Program, Community Health Placement Grants, Community Health
    Post-Graduate and Faculty Research, and MUST-Community Health Center
    collaboration efforts.
  • Perform other duties as may be required to fulfill the mission of
    the First Mile Community Health Program
  • Be an independent, self-motivated worker and a team player

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant must hold a Master’s Degree in Public Health (or
    related field) AND program experience in the health, social, and or
    community service related fields is required
  • Two years of professional experience in the health, social, and/or
    community service related fields
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel,
    STATA and/or SAS strongly encouraged
  • Excellent leadership qualities and initiative, as well as the
    ability to operate independently
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving skills, a proactive approach and a
    willingness to make decisions, seeking advice when necessary.
  • A high level of organization is a must
  • Integrity in all relationships and transactions is paramount.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and deliver high quality
    work on time, accurately, efficiently, and with minimal supervision is
    required.
  • Candidate must have the social and cultural intelligence and
    flexibility to effectively engage and interact with diverse groups in
    Mbarara and within the GHC / MGH networks.
  • Ability to prioritize, be flexible, and remain organized and detail
    oriented in a fluctuating environment is crucial.
  • Must be willing to travel to outlying health centers in Southwest
    Uganda as required for program work.
