Job Summary:  The External Affairs and AIT Manager will be
focused on driving market engagement strategy with key internal and external
stakeholders to help shape the local business environment and execute global
engagement strategies as appropriate. Will drive and coordinate the development
and implementation of our AIT strategy for ECAA with focus on Uganda.
Understand business priorities and develop appropriate engagement strategy and plan.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand business priorities and develop appropriate engagement
    strategy and plan.
  • Manage execution of the engagement plan
  • Ensure compliance with Group policies, positions and standards
  • Engage with key stakeholders in the market
  • Leading the Government Affairs team in the market
  • Provide leadership and drive the ECAA AIT Strategy to implement a
    coherent engagement plan with key stakeholders to create a multifaceted,
    multi-agency approach to tackling the issue of illicit trade in ECAA with
    particular focus on illicit trade in Uganda.
  • Through influencing and partnership with Law Enforcement Agencies
    (LEA) and other key decision makers/stakeholders to develop strategies to
    drive proactive engagement and enforcement against IT activities.
    Encourage cross border co-operation between relevant ECA LEA’s to mitigate
    the risk against illicit flow across porous ECA borders.
  • Develop and manage a training programme aimed at sensitising the
    relevant authorities and other stakeholders on tobacco and cigarette
    illicit trade issues. Conduct capacity building AIT cross -border
    workshops for LEA.
Leadership
Capabilities:
  • Ability to engage 3rd party stakeholders and build awareness of the
    external environment inside the company
  • Lead the External Affairs agenda within the Uganda business
  • Strong business acumen in order to advise the business on how to
    deliver results whilst managing business and reputational risk
  • Ability to advocate the Uganda business agenda in a straight forward
    and compelling way to internal and external stakeholders
  • Coaches and supports team in order to develop great talent

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal applicant for the British American Tobacco (BAT) External
    Affairs and AIT Manager job placement should hold a degree in Economics,
    Law, Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations
  • Five years of work experience in a similar role within Government,
    international institution or FMCG
  • Working knowledge of public affairs, trade blocs and fiscal policy
    generally.
  • Ability to apply basic project management principles to campaign
    execution
  • Excellent interpersonal and both oral and written communication
    skills
  • Appropriate level of maturity to provide credibility at senior
    levels externally and internally
  • Broad knowledge of the tobacco control issues and deep knowledge of
    the specific local environment
  • Ability to understand and shape the external environment
  • Credibility and ability to engage and influence senior external
    stakeholders
  • Clear and compelling written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to deliver robust local campaigns
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of business reputational risk
    and ensure BAT high standards are met at all times.
