Job Summary: The
IT Service Desk Officer is responsible for providing front line it support,
ensure that calls for support are dealt with promptly and; install and
configure PCs and associated peripherals and software.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Offer technical support to telephone and
    email requests from users for all Network, PC hardware, and software and
    associated peripherals.
  • Log support calls and document their
    outcome to facilitate the resolution of common queries.
  • The IT Service Desk Officer will redirect
    or escalate support requests to the appropriate member of the ICT
    Department Support Centre System.
  • Pro-actively provide information to
    users on the progress of outstanding support calls.
  • Actively contribute to ensuring that the
    Help Desk systems and software are kept up to date and messages are passed
    on and feedback received promptly.
  • Deploy PCs and associated peripherals
    including new installations and the redeployment of existing equipment.
  • Install and configure operating systems
    to agreed standards under the direction of the System Administrator.
  • The IT Service Desk Officer will also install
    and configure software to agreed standards.
  • Maintain the existing PCs and
    peripherals to standards determined by the System Administrator, by
    performing upgrades, new installations and carrying out routine
    procedures.
  • Assist in the compilation and
    maintenance of an accurate inventory of hardware and software.
  • Assist in the compilation of the Support
    Centre’s technical documentation, guidelines and procedures and ensure
    they are disseminated to users.
  • Work closely with colleagues in all ICT
    department continuity of service for all users.
  • To provide at all times a professional,
    courteous and rapid response to individual users.
  • Undertake such other work as may be
    assigned which is consistent with the nature of the job and its level of
    responsibility.
  • Perform any other duties that may be
    assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidates for the UGAFODE IT Service
    Desk Officer job placement must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer
    Science/Information Technology from a recognized University. Recent
    Computer/IT Graduates may suit in the same role.
  • Previous experience with Windows 2000/XP
    and Windows 2000/2003 Server Management and Active Directory are
    essential.
  • Experience of Microsoft SQL 2000 is
    desirable, as well as excellent technical skills; the role will require
    flexibility and initiative.

  • Advanced Reporting and communication
    software programmes – word processing, PowerPoint presentation, and
    spreadsheet and speed to meet production needs of the position
  • Excellent communication and negotiation

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Maturity, honesty, integrity and a
    strong sense of ethics
  • The ability to remain calm in stressful
    situations
  • Patience and understanding
  • To be persuasive, persistent and firm
  • Age: Below 35 years
