Referral Hospital has received a grant from EGPAF under the USAID RHITES-SW
project to support implementation of integrated health services, including
quality maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, malaria and child
development services at the hospital.
Job Summary: The
Medical Officer will provide effective and Comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and
management of opportunistic diseases to patients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The Medical Doctor will participate in diagnosis, treatment and
    management of patients; and streamline processes and systems for service
    provision and improve the overall quality of integrated health services
  • S/he will evaluate patients and refer them for specialized health
    care
  • S/he will provide health information to clients through health
    education
  • The incumbent will participate in the development and implementation
    of HIV/AIDS and TB Clinic work plans and provide technical support and
    mentoring to staff in the hospital and lower facilities in the region
  • The jobholder will also ensure that the services are provided in a
    high quality, patient- centered manner, resulting in excellent patient and
    fiscal outcomes
  • Provide continuous guidance and improvement of the quality of the
    integrated health services by regular application of quality improvement
    and Site Improvement and Monitoring Systems approaches
  • The incumbent will participate in outreach and community health
    programs, health data collection, data compilation and submission of
    periodic reports and site meetings.
  • Monitors patient’s flow and ensures triage is working effectively
  • Prepares quarterly requests for sundries, lab supplies, clinic tools
    and stationery as well as tracking their usage to ensure uninterrupted
    supply.
  • Participates in the performance appraisal of junior staff.
  • Liaises with the clinic pharmacy and Laboratory to ensure
    comprehensive services to clients and facilitates a system for record
    maintenance
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree
    from a recognised University.
  • Training in HIV/AIDS, and TB management
  • Training in Counselling
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in HIV/ AIDS and
    TB management will be an added advantage.
  • Must be registered with Uganda Medical and Dental Practioners
    Council
  • Hands-on knowledge and skills in provision of HIV prevention, care
    and treatment; MNCH, nutrition and family planning.
  • Exhaustive knowledge and understanding of current issues and
    developments in the field of HIV/AIDS and especially pediatric and adult
    ART, PMTCT and HCT.
  • Proven skills in teamwork and networking
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Exhibit high standards of professional Code of Conduct and Ethics
