About US:
Following the signing of the
Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement in July 1999 between the Democratic Republic of the
Congo (DRC) and five regional States (Angola, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe)
in July 1999, the Security Council established the United Nations Organization
Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) by its resolution 1279
of 30 November 1999, initially to plan for the observation of the ceasefire and
disengagement of forces and maintain liaison with all parties to the Ceasefire
Agreement. Later in a series of resolutions, the Council expanded the mandate
of MONUC to the supervision of the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement
and assigned multiple related additional tasks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Within delegated authority,
under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer and the supervision of the
Medical Administrative Coordinator will provide high level medical support to
ensure the physical and mental health of staff in MONUSCO;
  • Takes part in the day-to-day clinical
    activities of the clinic
  • Schedules routine and on demand Medical
    examinations of Staff.
  • Offers nursing consultations and assists
    the clinic Doctors in consultations and emergencies where appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date medical
    records/reports and provide documentation as required
  • Reviews immunization status of staff and
    offers advice on vaccinations.
  • Is responsible for the dispensing of
    drugs prescribed by the clinic Doctors or where the right to dispense has
    been delegated to the Nurse in writing.
  • Orders re-supplies of drugs, consumables
    and supplies for the Clinic from the mission medical warehouse.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United
    Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of
    the Congo (MONUSCO) Nurse job placement should hold a high school diploma
  • An accredited Medical Diploma Program
    (3/4 years) as a registered Professional Nurse is desirable.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of
    progressively responsible experience in the general nursing.
  • Previous experience in health
    administration is required.
  • A valid driving permit is required.
  • Proficiency in computer knowledge
  • Experience of work with international
    organizations is desirable.
  • Language: Fluency in oral and written English is
    required. Working knowledge of French is desirable.

  • Professionalism: Knowledge of clinical, occupational and
    tropical/travel medicine. Formal training in CPR and, preferably in BCLS
    and ACLS or equivalent emergency medical care. Shows pride in work and in

    deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than
    personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or

    outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems;

    for delivery of products or services to client.

    to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing

    group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own
