Job Summary: The Communications
Officer will support Plan International Uganda to increase its visibility,
reach and engagement, using relevant content to communicate with internal and
external audiences and partners to enhance its business development strategy
and increase its programme portfolio. With a strong digital skillset, the
Communications Officer supports implementation of the communications strategy
across a range of media channels (including social media), telling a compelling
story of our offer and the impact of our work across the programme portfolio,
raising the profile and strengthening brand visibility to existing and new
audiences in Uganda and beyond. The job holder demonstrates an understanding of
Uganda’s operating context, the organisation’s aims, stakeholders and target
audiences.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and Disseminate

- Designs, manages, and facilitates the
implementation of communications strategy - Coordinates and produces quality publications
to profile Plan International Uganda interventions and impact. - Develops and implement plan(s) of action and
activities for strategic communication and promotion
Programme visibility, branding

- Works with programme teams and partners to
develop, pre-test and roll out communications materials (such as
documentaries, posters, flyers and brochures) for awareness creation and
education. - Coordinates the design, development and roll out
of the campaign and project

working closely with service providers and the procurement team. - Takes lead in the dissemination of the
publications such as research findings, policy statements and reports through utilising strategic

- Takes
leadership in planning and organising public events and outreaches
meetings in line with the Plan International Uganda strategic priorities. - Builds the technical capacity of staff and
partners in order to carry out effective documentation and communication, as well as dissemination for
advocacy campaigning and learning. - Participates in project assessments and designs
to ensure integration of documentation and communication as well as
dissemination strategies. - Enhanced
documentation of programmes (e.g. through promising practices, best
practices and most significant change stories) - Supports programme and field teams in
integrating documentation and communication to effectively draw lessons
and change stories in line with the strategy - Coordinates the processes of identifying , documentation and dissemination of
most significant change stories and promising and best practices using a
multi-media platform - Compiles quarterly reports and bi-annual
magazines/ newsletters
highlighting the programme progress and share them with stakeholders and
donors - Develops and enhances strong partnerships with
community groups, leaders and other partners in the community and civil
society for promotion of participation in social and behavioural changes supportive
of programme goals - Makes monthly progress reports to line manager.
Media and publicity messaging
- Builds linkages/partnerships with media
companies to promote ongoing conversation about child well-being at
national level and in the
districts. - Designs and packages key audio and visual
messages and ensure placements in different media houses - Supports programme managers to commission high
quality and creative photography and videography which captures the
essence and impact of our
work. - Works with the media partners to promote the
Plan International Uganda agenda and specifically target policy makers
through strategic and cost effective communications approached - Participates in strategic networks including
Ministry levels, to promote
the Plan International Uganda profile - Participates in promoting Plan International
Uganda’s visibility on existing Plan International Platforms (such as
Planet and Media Bank ) and approved social media sites - Build capacity of staff in communications and media
relations.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Plan International Communications Officer job
opportunity must hold a Bachelor
degree required with preference in mass communications, journalism,
community development, or related fields. - Five
years’ experience in similar role, preferably with Non-Governmental
Organisations. - Experience
with still photography, videography, and story writing style of
communication - Excellent
communication and public relations skills with strong English language
capability (written and oral) and ability to clearly communicate complex
ideas and principles - Experience
with personal computing, email and general office productivity software
like Adobe Creative Suite - Experience
hosting or working with donors preferred
