About US:
Action for Health Uganda (A4HU)
is a youth empowerment organization dedicated to mainstream young peoples’
engagement in socio-economic development and promoting Sexual and Reproductive
Health and rights (SRHR). A4HU was registered in October 2017 as a new entity
to take over the operations of DSW (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung) in
Uganda. For the past 18 years DSW has supported the implementation of a
portfolio of projects to improve sexual and reproductive health of people of
young people in Uganda. Action 4 Health operate mobile rural outreach services
using its Youth Truck, which give access to information and Training to
vulnerable young people in hard-to-reach areas and supporting the peer-led
outreach events.
Job Summary: The
Communications Officer supports the department in successfully implementing its
goals. The Communications Officer is responsible for developing, implementing
and monitoring communications activities of one or several specific projects
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate
    and implement the communications strategy, media / press outreach and
    visibility strategies, including corporate publications
  • Provide
    technical support, backstopping and resources about the latest
    developments in the field of communications to the communications staff
  • Monitor
    quality improvement and implementation of A4HU Corporate Design Manual
  • Support
    resource mobilisation efforts to ensure funds for communications
    programmes are available
  • Represents
    A4HU overall perspectives and interests to external and internal
    stakeholders
  • Support
    the process of quality control and maintenance of A4HU website
  • Coordinate
    successful implementation of PR campaigning projects
  • Lead
    in the documentation of promising practices and impact stories
  • Participate
    in advocacy events/ activities at various levels these include civic
    education activities, budgeting as well as meetings with decision makers
    to name but a few.
  • Participate
    in internal trainings for advocacy and resource mobilisation in addition
    to involvement in provision of technical assistance to partners.
  • Perform
    any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The
    applicant must hold a BA degree in Mass Communication, Journalism or
    related field.
  • Three
    years of relevant experience in working with a non for profit
    organisations or a reputable community based organisation
  • Previous
    experience in writing news articles, feature stories and compelling photos
  • Should
    know communication software such as Adobe in Design, Adobe Photoshop,
    illustrator and basics of HTML
  • Basic
    knowledge of working with donors and donor
  • Excellent
    interpersonal skills and team work
  • Able
    to work independently
  • Excellent
    communication skills
  • Excellent
    computer skills
  • Fluent
    in English language both spoken and written
