Leader – NCD
Research Unit on AIDS was established following a request in 1988 from the
Uganda Government to the British Government for collaboration on the research
of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency.
The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related research. It conducts
large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials,
virological and immunological research and behavioural studies, and has
generated a wealth of research results that have been used to inform policy and
practice that have led to a large number of scientific publications in peer
reviewed journals over time.
Administrator – NCD Project will provide overall scientific and administrative
support to the different projects under the NCD research theme/programme,
ensuring timely arrangement of all the necessary support from initiation to
closeout for the smooth running on the NCD theme, in line with MRC/UVRI and
LSHTM policies and procedures as well as funder regulations
- Ensure timely projects set up in liaison with
the theme leader. - Work with the relevant section to ensure
ethical approval for all projects within the NCD theme. - Working with Procurement section, ensure timely
procurement of all supplies for the respective projects under the NCD
theme and ensure proper utilisation and reorder as necessary. - Ensure a smooth and safe working environment
for all NCD theme premises and work with the respective teams where needs
for improvement or repair arise. - Ensure timely provision and management of
transport needs for the theme liaising with the fleet supervisor, and
responsible for the drivers while undertaking project work.
- Ensure all staff under the NCD theme have valid
contracts and liaise with
human resources for any issues. - Work with HR section in the recruitment of
staff for the theme - Ensure proper leave tracking and management for
all staff under the NCD theme. - Ensure a smooth and safe working environment
for all NCD theme premises
and work with the respective teams where needs for improvement or repair
arise.
- Actively manage project budgets ensuring all
spending is within budget as well as reviewing monthly expenses for
accuracy. - Participate in budgeting for projects within the theme working with relevant
sections. - Actively tracks ethical applications, project
milestones and performance reports. - Responsible for Petty cash management for the
respective projects in the theme.

- The
applicant for the Medical Research Council (MRC) UK / UVRI Administrator
– NCD Project job placement must hold a Master’s level qualification in a
relevant field with good project planning and management training. - Five years’ experience in research-intensive environment
or managing multiple research projects. - Ability to work with diverse partners and
stakeholders, especially in an international multidisciplinary setting. - Experience and Certification in Good Clinical Research Practice
- Good Updated knowledge in project planning and
management supporting research projects, good understanding of scientific
research setting and key success requirements, with a good background of
research ethics and
procedures - Working knowledge of project financial, human
resource and procurement management for smooth support to the theme
