Job Summary: The
Communications Associate is responsible for broadcasting Andela’s mission and
accomplishments to the world, building a community of developers, partners and
supporters who are aligned with our vision.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:   
Manage press
relations in Kampala, including:
  • Writing press releases
  • Identify and pitch Andela news and stories
    to relevant outlets
  • Coordinate and staff interviews with press
  • Select & prep fellows and team members
    for interviews and events
  • Research news outlets, identify key
    talking points, guide conversation
  • Edit Andelan articles and media prior to
    release, when possible
  • Form and maintain relationships with
    reporters, tech bloggers and influencers to ensure that Andela’s story is
    told accurately.
  • Build out press list of relevant Ugandan
    and pan-African media
  • Coordinate Andela participation at
    external events in Kampala/pan-Africa
  • Build out events calendar for Fellows and
    leadership
  • Identify and pitch two speaking
    engagements per month for Andela leadership
  • Develop and implement social media
    strategy for Twitter and Facebook
  • Track success (engagement, lead gen),
    present a report monthly and iterate on strategy.
  • Cover events and visitors, generate photo
    stories and contribute to blog posts to highlight internal happenings.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant must have exceptional
    communication skills.
  • Strong writing/editorial skills.
  • Strong storytelling skills and the ability
    to tell visual stories with multimedia.
  • The ability to meet deadlines and manage
    expectations in a high-pressure environment.
  • The diligence to see projects through from
    inception to delivery.
  • Solid organizational skills to support the
    rest of the team.
  • The willingness to listen to, and apply
    feedback.
