religion, ethnicity, gender or national origin. Since 2001, AKU has offered
academic programmes in nursing, medicine and education for East African
Countries. The Aga Khan University has established a campus in Kampala Uganda.
Job Summary: The Imports
Officer will coordinate all import shipments and liaise with suppliers for the
AKUH Kampala project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Source, select and negotiate for the best
    rates on customs brokerage service on all imports.
  • Ensure correct clearing procedures and
    standards as per the Government of Uganda regulatory requirements.
  • Keenly monitor and co-ordinate
    consignments from point of origin to point of discharge.
  • Evaluate and monitor contracts to ensure
    suppliers and vendors comply with terms and condition of contract.
  • Follow up for URA, NDA & UNBS
    documentation and ensure all requirements are met for shipment before
    goods arrival.
  • Keenly track all shipments from suppliers
    an ensure that all imported goods are insured while in transit.
  • Manage exempted imports and submit
    duty/VAT applications to the relevant authorities for exemption.
  • Maintain complete updated import/export
    records.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Imports Officer job
    opportunity should hold a Diploma in Supply Chain Management or
    equivalent.
  • At least three years of relevant
    experience.
  • The ideal candidate should understand
    concepts, practices and procedure in import and export activities for air
    and sea freight including cargo tracing and shipment documentation.
  • Knowledge in Uganda importation
    laws/regulation will be advantageous.
  • Candidate should be having excellent
    inter-personal and communication skills, ability to work in a team
    environment, good negotiation skills and have attention to detail.
