Job Title:        Anesthetic Officer

Mengo Hospital was founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest
hospital in Uganda. It currently serves as an urban community hospital that
provides modern medical care. Mengo Hospital provides comprehensive care
including radiology, obstetrics, dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery.
Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides critical training and education to health
professionals through its various programs in midwifery and nursing, health
sciences, and laboratory technology. Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated
research and development team that works to find new solutions to health issues
in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Anesthetic
Officer will conduct safe anesthesia covering local, regional and general
anesthesia including pre- and post-operative assessment.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Manage and monitor theater patients during
    and after surgery
  • Handling emergency cases in theater that
    may arise from time to time
  • Coaching and mentoring of nurses in
    managing theater patients
  • Ensure safety and maintenance of theatre
    assets, equipments and keeping records of equipment inspections.
  • Identifying and administering appropriate
    anesthetic drugs
  • Ensure presence and compliance to SOPs in
    the theater
  • Prepare and submit daily and monthly
    reports to the theater Manager



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate should hold a Higher
    Diploma in Anesthesis
  • Two years’ experience in similar role
    preferably in hospital setting
  • Must be registered with the Allied Health
    Professionals’ Council
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Good technical and measurement skills
  • Good team player
  • Organised and methodical
  • Able to cope with the physical demands of
    the job
  • Excellent communication and Interpersonal
    skills
