Driver will drive Cordaid vehicles in accordance with Cordaid requirements and
with supervisor’s instructions to transport cargo and personnel, Trainees, and
guests to appointments in Kampala and, as may be needed, throughout the
countryside, where Cordaid operates within Uganda. The incumbent will also have
assigned responsibility in the oversight of periodic maintenance and repairs of
Cordaid vehicles.
- Driving: The incumbent will operate
official Cordaid vehicles to transport staff and cargo. - Maintenance and
Repair: The Driver
will ensure that vehicles are maintained and repaired from service
providers on time. He will also maintain the vehicles clean as required. - Record keeping: The Driver will maintain vehicle logs
that record each trip taken, odometer readings and time of departure and
arrival for each trip. Each time that fuel is put in the vehicle, the
driver will document on the mileage sheet the amount, odometer reading,
and date obtained. Any maintenance must also be recorded. - The Driver will also deliver and pick-up
messages and parcels. He will make purchases as requested. - The Driver will load and unload heavy
items into/from vehicles, as well as help move furniture and equipment
from one part of the office and residences to another. - The driver will perform administrative
clerical work whenever required by the supervisor and the team at Kampala
office. - Perform any other duties as assigned by
the Logistics Manager.
- The ideal candidate for the Cordaid Driver
vacancy should have at least a Diploma - A minimum of three years of professional
chauffeur experience preferably with NGOs and a valid local driver’s
license for following types of vehicles is highly preferred. Classes: A
(Motor cycles) B (motor cars),C (medium commercial), DL (light omnibus). - Excellent knowledge on vehicles repair
and maintenance are highly desired with a certificate in defensive driving. - Knowledge and ability: Must be familiar
with local traffic laws and area traffic patterns is required; knowledge
and prior work experience with electronic record keeping (computer usage)
is also highly desired. - Duties require the ability to deal with
officials and guests at the front desk and occasionally VIPs in a relaxed
but competent and professional manner. - Ability to work effectively with a
diverse group of staff, Implementing partners, business people, property
owners. - Proven exposure and experience of
cross-cultural communication skills is highly desired. - Legally able to work in Uganda.
- Language
Proficiency: Ability
to speak, read, and write in English fluently.
