Umeme is the largest electricity distribution company in Uganda, with a
mandate of operating, maintaining, upgrading and expanding the electricity
distribution network, retailing electricity to its customers, improving
efficiency within the electricity distribution system. Umeme Limited is listed
on the Uganda Securities Exchange and cross-listed on the Nairobi Securities
Exchange since 2012. Umeme has over 620,000 customers of which 20% are on
pre-paid metering, a staff complement of 1,400 employees and has over the last
9 years invested US$ 271 m in the electricity distribution system.
Job Summary: The Digital
Communications Officer will primarily develop photographic and videography
media content for the business media platforms including print, electronic and
digital, copy and script write media messages for both internal and external
consumption to strengthen the brand.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carry out official company Photography and
    Videography for all events, liaise with media houses to publish official
    pictorial and video content to drive a positive image of the brand.
  • Collaborate with internal business
    stakeholders to acquire pro-business news leads, gather photographic and
    videographic information for processing and publication in line with brand
    guidelines.
  • Script and copywriting for all media and
    marketing messages for both internal and external audiences to strengthen
    and preserve the Umeme brand and image.
  • Support development of overall layout and
    production design for Umeme adverts, corporate reports, brochures,
    magazines and web content in line with brand guidelines.
  • Quality media editing for Text, Sound,
    Photos, Video and Web content for internal and external media publication
    platforms including print, electronic and online platforms.
  • Photography, Videography, Graphics Design,
    online content management for web and other channels.
  • Develop and implement a system to
    processes, catalogue, archive all Umeme media articles, stories, photos,
    videography and information to enable easy retrieval for reference
    purposes.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal applicant must hold a Degree in
    Mass Communication, Journalism or related field.
  • A minimum of three years of working
    experience in Photo Journalism.
  • Knowledgeable about the electricity energy
    sector.
  • Must have an Eye for News.
  • Adept to social media.
  • Excellent technical skills, using digital
    and non-digital cameras and industry-standard graphic, video and
    photograph software
  • Initiative when reacting to situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey
    information.
  • Awareness of the positions taken by the
    publication you are working with.
  • Creativity and an eye for a picture.
  • Assertiveness with courtesy.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and
    to meet tight publication deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge about the local,
    regional and international Media.
  • High degree of creativity in social media
    communication.
