Uganda since 1996. Build Africa Uganda (BAU) programmes focus on Education and
Livelihood improvement. BAU currently works in 13 j districts with its field
programs coordinated through two Area offices located in Kumi and Masindi.

Build Africa’s MumsRead project is a 3 year project to be part funded with
UKaid from the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID)
and will be implemented in Kiryandongo and Oyam Districts. The project targets
2,243 young mothers in rural Uganda and is aimed at ensuring that they are able
to better support their children’s wellbeing and are playing a more impactful
role in their homes and communities using new skills, including functional
levels of literacy and numeracy. Build Africa will use culturally appropriate
entry point of child-care skills for young mothers to then further equip them
with literacy, numeracy and life skills, including financial management to
enable them to take a more active role in their homes and communities, changing
the’ landscape for their own children and leading to a virtuous development
cycle beyond the life of the project.
responsibility for the implementation of the MumsRead Project in Kiryandongo
and Oyam districts. The job-holder will provide field level support and
oversight for project implementation and will be expected to continually
observe the day-to-day effectiveness of the project delivery, noting and
reporting any areas where improvements are possible. With support from the PM,
S/he will work on the project in carrying out the agreed project activities,
including Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) activities, and monitoring
and reviewing project impact. S/he will work closely with the project partners
but also collaboratively with other staff in BAU on project management, MEL and
reporting to the donors
Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a
relevant degree (Education, Gender, Development Studies, Social work and Community
based development - Three years of related work experience on
development projects, preferably with an INGO. - Experience of direct working with
communities and children - The applicant should have experience in
community mobilization approaches with proven experience in Adult Literacy
and Gender interventions^ - Proven experience and clinical knowledge
of managing community projects - Knowledge in data collection approaches,
methods and tools - Should be proactive in thinking and able
to question the status quo in their day to day work. - Awareness of child safeguarding, conflict
sensitivity and knowledge of Do No Harm Programming. - A person of high integrity that will
follow BAU’s core values and adhere to a zero tolerance on waste and
corruption. - Experience of developing and facilitating
training sessions within low literacy communities - Effective communication and listening
skills. - Willing to speak up and proactively raise
issues - Good report writing and computer skills
including Microsoft Excel and Word. - Ability to ride a motor cycle with a valid
riding permit - A good team player.

field conditions - Knowledge and experience of working in
rural communities in Kiryandongo and Oyam is an added
