About NUYOK Program:
Caritas Kotido Diocese is part
of a consortium led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to run a five-year Food
for Peace (FFP) USAID funded program called NUYOK to build resilience to shocks,
enhance livelihoods and improve food security and nutrition for vulnerable
rural families in three districts of Karamoja viz: Abim, Nakapiripirit and
Napak – which are home to 406,880 people living in an estimated 58,126
households. Caritas Kotido Diocese through support from CRS will implement the
activities of NUYOK Programme in Abim District.

Job Summary: The Integrated
Water Resources Management (IWRM) Officer will work with the Social
Cohesion/Conflict Officer and the NRM/DRR Officer. They will report to the
Resilience Program Manager and will support the water and resource management
needs per relevant project activities. The IWRM Officer will support sustainable
utilization of natural resources, shared environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordination,
development and management of water, land and related resources in order
to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising
the sustainability of vital ecosystems and the environment in the program operational
area. - Promote
environmental protection, foster economic growth and sustainable
agricultural development in NUYOK operational area. - Promote
democratic participation in governance, leadership and entrepreneurship of
all activities related to ecosystems and environment for improvement of
human and animal health in the area of operation. - To
champion cross-sectoral policy approach and the understanding that water resources
are an integral component of the ecosystem, a natural resource, and a
social and economic good in the target operational area. - Produce
quarterly, monthly and activity reports as required by Caritas Kotido
Diocese and donors. - Communicate
with sub-county and community leaders and relevant beneficiary households
and build strong community relationships in relation to IWRM. - Establish
agreements with relevant parties, ensuring clear communication of the
project, its purpose and stakeholder responsibilities. - Take
full responsibility of materials once taken from the stores to field
locations, monitor correct storage and use of materials at sites. - Once
planning is completed and materials are ready, work very closely with
project beneficiaries as they implement IWRM strategies. - Provide
continual expertise in the IWRM field throughout implementation till
completion of activities. - Document
lessons learned from each activity and contextually relevant and cost effective
recommendations for future programming - Establish
worksheets to update records, monitor activities, and ensure organized and
updated records. - Present
information and or reports on project activities to Resilience Manager. - Together
with the project team, design training manuals and conduct community-based
trainings as per the project design. - Represent
Caritas Kotido Diocese in relevant sector coordination meetings. - Perform
any other roles and responsibilities as may be assigned by Management
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate for the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)
Officer job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated
Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry,
Agro-Forestry or other related fields from recognized University or
Institution. - At
least three years of progressively working in IWRM, environment and energy
with International NGOs or local government. - Extensive
knowledge of community participatory approaches and disaster risk reduction. - Broad
knowledge of supporting a comprehensive approach to biodiversity, safe access
to energy and/or climate change. - Knowledge
of the concepts, principles, techniques and practices of energy,
environment and/or climate change. - Broad
knowledge and understanding of emerging sustainable and appropriate energy
technologies and renewable energy - Good
team player with excellent inter-personal and communication skills - Excellent
computer skills (MS Word, Excel, internet) - Excellent
communication, including written and presentation skills. - Ability
to work under pressure and to make accurate decisions. - Excellent
analytical and coordinating skills - Patient,
understanding and of a pleasant character - Excellent
management skills - Able
to build and develop capacity of others - Show
commitment to the organizational values - Ability
to communicate in applicable local language(s) - Possession
of a valid riding permit is a must.
