About US:
The Higher Education Students’
Financing Board (HESFB) is a body Corporate established by an Act of
Parliament, number 2 of 2014, to provide both Loans and Scholarships to Ugandan
Students to pursue Higher Education. The objective of the Loan Scheme is to
increase equitable access to Higher Education in Uganda and also support
qualified students who may not afford the cost of Higher Education.
Job Summary: The Senior Recoveries
Officer will be responsible for the loan recoveries, follow up of non-performing
loans and payment commitment and to ensure a clean Loan portfolio.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages
    recoveries of loans and management of debt portfolio of the HESFB.
  • Follow
    up loan repayments and update individual beneficiary loan ledgers.
  • On
    monthly basis, prepare a recoveries performance report on loans for review
    by the Manager Recoveries.
  • Achieve
    recovery target as advised by the Manager Recoveries.
  • Daily
    recovery calls and daily call memo’s evidencing visit made shall be
    prepared and filled in each customer’s file.
  • Engage
    with customers and reach a realistic and affordable repayment plan which
    is informed by accurate financial statement.
  • Forward
    weekly activity reports and submit weekly recovery figures as against
    projected target and the expected run rate and variance for the
    Management.
  • Manage
    relationship with debtor clients in conjunction with the Manager
    Recoveries, e.g. request for interest concession/waivers, write off
    request, restructuring of accounts e.t.c
  • Perform
    any other duties assigned from time to time by the supervisor.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant must hold an Honors Degree from a recognized university
  • Master’s
    Degree in relevant field is an added advantage
  • Five
    or more years of experience in credit management
  • Knowledge
    of the Loan Recovery function
  • Basic
    Lending Skills
  • Good
    Customer relations
  • Good
    communication & negotiation Skills
  • Basic
    Banking operations knowledge
  • Effective
    reporting skills
  • Initiative
    and analytical judgment
  • Ability
    to negotiate debt and payments with clients
  • Computer
    skills; Excel, Ms. Word and power point).
