Scientific Coordinator
is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization. It
strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a
combination of community based research, curative services and prevention
strategies in the District of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at the
Uganda Virus Research Institute Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), RHSP is implementing a 5 year
comprehensive HIV/ AIDS program in the 12 districts of Masaka region namely;
Rakai, Kyotera, Masaka, Kalungu, Bukomansimbi, Lyantonde, Lwengo, Sembabule,
Butambala, Gomba, Mpigi, and Kalangala with an aim of achieving rapid HIV
epidemic control.
Scientific Officer will work in the department of Grants, Science and Training.
(S) he will contribute to writing grants for programs, research and training,
and will be charged with the following:
- Identification of funding opportunities and
sharing them with departmental staff for review - Prioritization of various grant opportunities
in accordance with the program’s goals and objectives - Conduct literature searches relevant to prioritized opportunities
- Work with the Grants Scientific coordinator to
form teams of staff to respond to the prioritized opportunities - Take an active role in writing parts of the
grant - Follow up with contributors to ensure that
priority opportunities are
pursued to completion before deadlines - Update a web-based grants dashboard,
opportunities spreadsheet, and work plan in a timely manner - Prepare and present periodic reports on
progress to management and key stakeholders - The above roles and responsibilities are not exhaustive and may
be revised from time to time in response to changing needs of the
organization.
- The
ideal candidate for the Grants Scientific Officer job opportunity should
hold a Master’s degree in Epidemiology Public Health, Health services
research, Health sciences, statistics, Humanities or a related field with a good
understanding of epidemiological and statistical methods - A first degree in human medicine or biomedical
sciences is an added advantage but not a requirement - Previous experience with writing grants is an
added advantage - Computer literacy and ability to effectively
use reference management software, - Creativity/Innovativeness (i.e. ability to use
information to create something new) - Attention to detail, and ability to analyze and critique scientific
information - Excellent in written and spoken English
- Good public presentation and communication
skills - Organized, excellent time management, and able
to prioritize multiple tasks - Proactiveness, self-motivation and able to work under minimum supervision
- Resilience, good interpersonal skills and
ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
