Electrification Agency (REA)
Uganda
(REA) is the secretariat of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) established
by statutory instrument 2001 No. 75. REA is mandated to implement Government’s
rural electrification programs. The Government of Uganda through REA is
implementing a number of electricity connection projects with financial support
from development partners to meet national electricity access targets.
Geographical Information Systems Officer will operate the REA’s Geographical Information
Systems.
are the following:
- Carry
out preliminary Engineering design of power line routes - Continuously
update REA’s Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database with;
planned, under implementation, upgrades and commissioned powerlines. - Conduct
verification of drawings submitted by surveyors, contractors and service
providers for built power lines. - Provide
efficient technical support of GIS applications to REA staff and Service
Territory operators. - Collaborate
with other sector players for ease of sharing data and experiences, as
well as carrying out research to keep abreast with technological
advancements. - Offer
technical support to the development and maintenance of web GIS
applications and any other GIS scripts, programmes and functions used for
analysis. - Maintain
an updated electrification network asset register in the GIS database. - Coordinate,
maintain and supervise GIS data collection and update activities (spatial
data development including modelling, analysis, management of databases,
metadata, digital mapping, and GIS data standards and quality assurance procedures).
- The
Assistant Geographical Information Systems Officer must hold a Bachelor’s
Degree in Natural Sciences, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Land
Surveying/Geomatics or Information and Communication Technology. - At
least five (5) years’ experience in design, implementation and data
conversions working with ESRI applications in electricity related
industry. - ESRI
certificates in; tools and functionality, and Workflows and Analysis or
related modules are a requirement - Expert
proficiency in the use, design, and implementation of a Geographic
Information System including applications utilising ArcGIS and ESRI
extensions. - Experience
in building, and customization of GIS mobile application. - Experience
in coordinate systems, online data collection and powerline surveys in
electricity distribution utility environments will be added advantage.
