Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Uganda, and the
technical supervision by the Specialist will lead the implementation of ASL2050
in the country and, in particular, s/he will:

- Finalise country-level reports that
provide an assessment of the impact of livestock systems on society
(public health, environment and livelihoods) and validate them in country
level workshops. - Review and discuss with stakeholders
available long-term projections on demand and supply of livestock
products. - Engage stakeholders and use foresight
techniques to articulate long-term (2050) scenarios for the selected
livestock systems, with a focus on investigating their potential impact on
public health. - Engage stakeholders to review current
livestock sector policies in view of the articulated scenarios, with the
objective to identify gaps and priority reform areas for ensuring a
sustainable growth of the sector. - Engage stakeholders do draft and present
livestock policy recommendations in a national policy forum. - Participate in regional meetings to ensure
cross-fertilization between activities and outputs in all ASL2050 target
countries - Support the development of continental
livestock scenarios, jointly with FAO HQs and AU-IBAR, including through
participating in regional meetings. - Support the implementation of an ASL2050
communication plan at country level. - Act as Secretary of the ASL2050 National
Steering Committee. - AoB as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Livestock Specialist
job opportunity should hold a Post-graduate degree in Economics /
Statistics / Livestock- related subjects. - At least five years of experience in
planning, managing and facilitating multi-stakeholder multi-sectoral
decision-making processes. - Five years of experience in supporting
government policy and planning in the livestock sector. - Excellent working knowledge of English Competencies

- Knowledge Sharing and Continuous
Improvement - Excellent writing skills
