About US:
The Uganda National Association
of Cerebral Palsy (UNAC) is a non-governmental organization established in 2013
to advocate for the rights of people with Cerebral Palsy (CP). It is at COMBRA
premises at Kiwanga Seta Mukono district. UNAC has received a 3-year’s project
for supporting people with CP in Uganda with the following theory of change:
Job Summary: The Project
Officer will ensure efficient, effective and timely implementation of the a
project by  coordinating collaboration
and capacity building for parents support groups organizing meetings with local
government and other stakeholders, ensuring conformity to the partnership
agreement, project design, to contribute towards increasing the visibility of
UNAC.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mobilize
    parents and helpers of people with CP and establish a structure of support
    groups
  • Organizational
    and financial capacity building of the support groups and to the level of
    registering as Community Based Organisations ( CBOs.)
  • Improve
    the sustainability of the support groups with capacity building in
    resource mobilization and income generation
  • Trainer
    Of Trainers (TOT) in psycho-social support and physiotherapeutic methods
    to members of support groups
  • Supervise
    and monitor the work of the support groups during project span
  • Exchange
    of experience between support groups of different sub-counties
  • Engage
    fathers of people with CP in targeted activities
  • Conduct
    community awareness activities on CP rights
  • Sensitize
    key persons at communities (drivers, teachers, nurses, doctors) about
    special needs of people with CP
  • Engage
    people with CP and their helpers in community activities
  • Board
    development training: The role of leadership in implementation of policies
    and guidelines
  • Practicing
    transparent decision making and accountability towards its members
    (meetings)
  • Participation
    in networks and relation building with the rest of the disability movement
  • Establishment
    and updating of a membership register with a system of annual membership
    subscriptions
  • Establishment
    and application of communication channels with members (newsletter, SMS
    network, and other)
  • Engagement
    of members as volunteers in UNACs activities at all levels
  • Training
    of staff and volunteers at the secretariat and executive committee in
    project management cycle (planning, monitoring, reporting)
  • Strengthening
    accounting systems and procedures
  • Establish
    routines of reflection and internal learning (meetings, feedback, internal
    reviews)
  • Training
    in fund raising and resource mobilisation skills
  • Investigate
    in a business model of income generating for UNAC and pilot the model



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, Community Based
    Rehabilitation, Social work from a recognised university/institute.
  • At
    least three years’ experience with duties related to programme
    implementation, capacity building.
  • Demonstrated
    knowledge and experience at identifying and differentiating cerebral palsy
    (CP) from other disabilities.
  • Commitment
    to and understanding of gender sensitivity in programmes, including of
    issues related to violence against women and girls
  • Familiar
    with capacity building processes
  • Experience
    in promotion of human rights of vulnerable people
  • Demonstrated
    experience of networking and collaboration with civil society and
    government at district and community level
  • The
    ability to work with limited supervision
  • Ability
    to document and communicate in English
  • Proven
    interpersonal and networking skills to build relationships with a wide
    variety of stakeholders
  • Ability
    to lead and motivate others
  • Personal
    integrity and an ethical approach to work
  • Knowledge
    of the local languages of Luganda and Rukonzo is an added advantage
  • Specialism
    in livelihoods
  • Training
    in parents’/ care takers and other stake holders.
  • Prior
    work experience in organisations working with persons with disabilities.
  • Training/qualification
    in gender in development
  • Understanding
    of the issues facing persons with cerebral palsy in Uganda and/or a lived
    experience of disability
