About Us:
The Uganda Youth Network
(UYONET) is a regional focused leading umbrella Youth CSO Network that works to
mainstream young peoples’ engagement in development and governance processes in
East Africa and beyond. UYONET was started in 2002 to respond to the increasing
demand for a collective platform for research, training and policy advocacy for
young people by young people. With a membership of 31 district networks
constituted by over 147 youth organizations, UYONET has continued to be the
apex of youth programming and designing appropriate interventions that respond
to the needs of the youth across the region.
Job Summary:   The Communication,
Advocacy and Branding Manager role will focus on the implementation of our
strategy and ensure that in the next three years, UYONET is
  • Positioned
    as a leading and respected leader on youth issues in Uganda and beyond.
  • At
    the fore-fronting on advocating for emerging youth issues and creating an
    enabling environment for youth CSOs
  • UYONET
    member organisations are mobilised to build a stronger youth movement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
National Level Engagement and
advocacy 50%:
  • Support
    the implementation of national level advocacy events and activities in
    line with UYONET advocacy strategy
  • Attend
    relevant policy events for Intel gathering and learning, capture key
    points and share these systematically with colleagues / partners as
    relevant.
  • Advising
    on the development of relevant policy materials to support our representation
    and influencing at events.
  • Represent
    the organisation at relevant National meetings with the government Line
    Ministries and departments as directed by the Executive Director
  • Represent
    the organisation at relevant National meetings with the donors, Implementing
    Partners, Project Coordinating Committee Meeting etc as directed by the
    executive Director
Partnerships/networks
opportunities and management 20% 
  • Lead
    on all engagements with our member organisations
  • Initiate
    and develop partnerships and networks for the member organisation to
    promote their work and investment opportunities
  • Support
    our participation and involvement in priority networks and coalitions
Serve as active member of the
UYONET Management Committee:
  • Take
    active role in the development and regular review of programme operational
    plan.
  • Ensure
    timely documentation and dissemination of key findings from programme to
    inform learning and presenting to the Management Committee.
  • Play
    key role in the strategic planning and reviews process in coordination
    with the other programme team and immediate stakeholders.
  • Provide
    regular updates on partnerships underpinning the programme
  • Provide
    guidance and expertise on programme issues to Management Committee and
    broader organisation as required.
  • Provide
    detailed information and linking finance and programmes unit.
Marketing and communication
materials 10%:
  • Lead
    on fundraising/donor events and activities to raise the profile of the
    organisation, including building media partnerships to showcase our work
  • Develop
    communications materials including the quarterly newsletter and annual
    report in collaboration with Monitoring and Learning Manager
  • Lead
    on coordination of the Radio Shows as well as be Lead Presenter for the
    shows
  • Develop
    communications materials including the quarterly newsletter and annual
    report
  • Contribute
    to internal communication and feedback systems so that communications and
    learning informs programme planning and implementation
  • In
    conjunction with the M&E unit, liaise with colleagues in the programmes
    units to collect stories, case studies and photos to capture our programme
    results and learning.
Branding and Visibility (10%)
  • Ensure
    UYONET is visible in all events at all levels.
  • Lead
    on the design and branding of key internal and external resources,
    including donor reports, policy briefs, posters etc.
  • Support
    the team in being the ‘brand guardians’ for UYONET, ensuring that all new
    staff are inducted on the brand guidelines and all materials being
    produced adhere to them.
  • Give
    training and advice to colleagues across UYONET to increase their capacity
    for design and digital marketing.
Management of website and
social media (10%):
  • Review
    and Make regular Updates on the UYONET website content and structure
  • Implement
    new structure and content plan based on website review
  • Provide
    content for online social networking (Twitter and Facebook and website
    presence for these networks, ensuring input from members in this.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant must hold a post Graduate degree/qualification in
    communications, marketing-related and/or development-related areas
  • The
    ideal candidate for the Communication, Advocacy and Branding Manager employment opportunity
    must have three years of marketing/communications experience
  • Good
    track record of developing and implementing innovative and effective
    strategic marketing and communication strategies
  • Experience
    in CMS, Adobe Suite and CRM systems
  • Demonstrable
    experience of translating complex information into compelling stories
  • Excellent
    written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous
    experience of networking, influencing and building effective relationships
    within a complex organisation
  • Strong
    time management skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and
    effectively manage competing demands
  • Experience
    in creating and implementing project plans
  • Ability
    to work flexibly as part of a wider team and autonomously on individual
    projects
  • The
    successful individual will have the interpersonal skills necessary to
    establish effective working relationships with staff with varying levels
    of communication, Investment and partnership experience.
