About Us:
Uganda Heart Institute was
legally established in 2001 as a Company limited by guarantee of its founding
Bodies namely, Mulago Hospital, Ministry of Health, Makerere University and
Uganda Heart Foundation. In UHI therefore commenced operating as a semi-autonomous
Unit under Mulago Hospital. The purpose of the registering UHI as a limited
Company was to fasten the growth and development of the Institute, by enabling
it to solicit for funds and manage its resources at source.
About Project:
Uganda Heart Institute Jobs:
The Uganda Heart Institute with its development partner: The Children’s
National Medical Center, Washington DC, United States of America plans to
conduct a clinical trial ‘Determining the Impact of Penicillin on Latent
Rheumatic Heart Disease: A Randomized Control Trial.’ The study site will be
based in Gulu and four (4) surrounding districts
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To study protocol and procedures including
    gaining expertise in rheumatic heart disease knowledge.
  • Participates in gaining informed consent.
  • With support from CRC distributes study
    medications and maintains drug accountability logs.
  • With support from CRC, organizes study files, regulatory binders, and all
    other study-specific source documentation.
  • With support from CRC serves as a liaison
    officer between the study and community, including community engagement,
    engagement with local health/educational
    authorities, and VHT’s.
  • Maintains effective and ongoing communication
    with CRC, including weekly project update and coordination meetings.
  • Ensures adequate supply and proper storage of
    study medication including tracking of expiration dates.
  • Attends Saturday support groups (1/2 day) two
    out of every 3 Saturdays to administer IM penicillin to study participants
    and to oversee community nurses assisting with drug administration.
  • Ensures best practices for penicillin
    administrations
  • Leads initial and ongoing training of community nurse volunteers in
    best-practices for IM penicillin delivery
  • Obtains and maintains basic and advanced life
    support training in the case of an allergy or other emergency.
  • Completes interval health assessments at scheduled support group visits
    through tablet-based data entry.
  • Travels with caseworker to the homes of
    children who miss support group and PCN injection for home delivery.
  • Performs any other duty as may be assigned from
    time to time.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidates should preferably hold University Degrees in Nursing from
    recognized institutions
  • One
    year of clinical care, prior research experience is an asset.
  • High
    level of personal motivation and excellent skills in team management, team
    building, community outreach, and communication.
  • Excellent
    computer skills
  • Applicants
