charity in the United States of America and as a non-governmental organization
in Uganda. Walimu was founded in 2011 by a group of research doctors based on
the simple observation that in low-income countries, many severely ill patients
die of curable conditions because they are not identified and treated early
enough. Walimu’s mission focuses on improving quality of care by understanding
barriers to quality care, enabling improvements in care through hands-on
training of healthcare providers, and establishing accountability through data
collection and analysis. Walimu’s work is grounded in research and based on the
best available evidence on care in resource-constrained settings and health
worker behaviour change. Walimu works closely with the Ministry of Health in
Uganda to implement programs.
