High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly.
UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international
protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees
and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate
concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under
Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
Reproductive Health and HIV AIDS Officer will support the office in bridging
the Reproductive Health and HIV gaps in service delivery and monitoring of
implementation at the Representation office in Kampala and the field office.
The incumbent will ensure sustainability and consistency of the gains made in
the area of Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS and provide back up to the Public
Health Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and advocate for HIV and
refugee issues with national bodies, the UN country HIV theme groups, and
major HIV donors; - Coordinate Reproductive Health and HIV
activities and ensure that decisions are implemented; - Identify priority heath issues and key
data requirement for programmer planning and monitoring; - Planning and coordinating policy
development, monitoring, and evaluation and advocacy for the HIV and
Reproductive Health (RH) Programmes; - Coordinate the related technical sectors
to improve efficiency and to compliment the services they provide; - The jobholder will advocate for sufficient
technical capacity within UNHCR and among its partners, and make
appropriate recommendations to achieve the country operations objectives; - Ensure quality programmes by using UNHCRs
corporate tools to assess their technical soundness and generate data for
evidence based decisions; - Work in liaison with other technical staff
in the region as well as at headquarter and elsewhere in the world to
share ideas and disseminate important information and experiences; - Perform any other duties as required.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations
UNHCR Assistant Reproductive Health and HIV AIDS Officer career placement
should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, Public Health, or related
studies - Medical experience (e.g. nursing)
- At least three years’ experience relevant
to the function; with two years’ experience with refugees or other conflict
affected and displaced persons. - Computer skills
- Knowledge of local institutions
- Fluency in English and knowledge of local
language
