specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity

its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory
services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John
Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.

About E-AMAKA Project:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) through the EAMAKA project
offers free Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) services in 11 districts of Uganda as
part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package. The districts of implementation
for this project are; Kampala, Wakiso, Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale, Kagadi, Arua,
Koboko, Nebbi, Pakwach and Zombo.

Job Summary: The SMC
Counselor will conduct client counseling for SMC ensuring high-level
confidentiality without discrimination.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Tasked
with the provision of a full range of counseling services to SMC clients - Identify
clients’ needs and document pertinent information - Ensure
that all client information is documented is stored in a manner that
observes the highest levels of confidentiality. - As part of the counselling service, assist
clients in formulating plans for addressing problem areas - Refer
clients for further counseling to other social support institutions as
required - Participate
as a full member of the circumcision team - Support
other circumcision related activities as required
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The
applicant must hold a diploma or degree in counseling or a health related
field - Completion
of a recognized course in a counseling with a specialty in counseling services
for persons living with HIV/AIDS - At
least three years of related experience in a clinical setting - Applicants
must be trained and certified to provide counselling for SMC clients. - Excellent
communication skills - Good
counseling skills - Ability
to work in a multidisciplinary team. - Extensive
knowledge and understanding of recent advances in HIV/AIDS. - Knowledge
and understanding of one of the local languages e.g. Alur, Lugbara, Madi
is highly desirable.
