M-KOPA Solar is the global leader of “pay-as-you-go” energy for
off-grid customers. Since its commercial launch in October 2012, M-KOPA has
connected more than 500,000,000 homes in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to solar
power, and is now adding over 500 new homes each day. The success of M-KOPA (M=
mobile, KOPA= to borrow) stems from making solar products affordable to
low-income households on a pay-per-use installment plan. Customers acquire
solar systems for a small deposit and then purchase daily usage “credits” for
less than the price of traditional kerosene lighting. After one year of
payments customers own their solar systems outright and can upgrade to more
power.
Job Summary: The Field Sales
Executive will sell M-KOPA Solar products and this will involve travelling
around particular regions, visiting existing or potential new customers to make
sale presentations, negotiate new sales and discuss aftersales service. The
role will involve detailed advanced planning with flexibility of organizing own
work. You will be required to meet weekly or monthly targets agreed upon with
Regional Manager.  This will be a
demanding, yet personally satisfying role as you will be selling a product that
is upgrading people’s lives. 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Sell M-KOPA solar products to potential
    customers to achieve and surpass agreed sales targets
  • Prospect new customers  via networking events; and follow up on
    the sales leads
  • Recruit, develop & retain a field
    based team of sub-Agents/scouts to meet the agreed  targets in line with M-KOPA business
    goals
  • Manage inventory and resolve audit recommendations
    in line with M-KOPA audit resolution guidelines 
  • Prepare and submit sales & activity
    plans to the Regional Manager by communicating sales results, challenges,
    opportunities and objectives
  • Prepare and submit sales accountabilities
    following M-KOPA financial accountability guidelines



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
  • The ideal candidate should hold any
    relevant formal education from a recognized institution
  • One to two years of field sales experience
    in direct selling of e.g.PAY-TV, sale of high value products, financial
    services, FMCGs etc.
  • Previous experience in achieving and
    exceeding sales goals/targets
  • Ability to cope with pressure to meet
    sales targets and earn commission.
  • Ability to work independently, under
    minimal supervision with ability to plan for your own time
  • Confident, resilient, enthusiastic,
    determined, committed, focused and ambitious
  • Ability to get on with people you haven’t
    met before
  • A successful negotiator, and persuasive
  • Well organized and self-motivated &
    disciplined
  • Fluent in local languages with willingness
    to work in rural  areas
  • Ability to hit targets & ability to
    mentor sales staff
  • Ability to request and receive support
    from the headquarters.
