proposal for the REACH (Resilient Efficient Agribusiness Chains) project to the
Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kampala, Uganda. The project will
improve market engagement for 40,000 market oriented farmers, strengthen
household resilience and increase availability of agricultural support services
for farmers and businesses in the rice and potato value chains in consideration
of their strategic importance to the Government of Uganda and EKN.
Agribusiness Specialist will be responsible for the implementation of
agribusiness interventions at a regional level (in cooperation with private
sector and other partners) ensuring that they effectively deliver against the
project targeted outputs as defined in the Terms of Reference and log frame.
They should have familiarity with the Making Markets work for the Poor (M4P)
approach and knowledge of the local languages.
- Provide support in conducting market
assessments to determine the market viability of specific new crops for
the project - Assist in conducting market scans, and
screening agribusiness/MSMEs for the projects priority crops. - Carry out profiling and
formulate/strengthen aggregation structure/farmer business group business
plans. - Ensure farmers contribute in the design of
strategies to strengthen the linkages between farmers’ business groups and
higher-up value chain actors and service providers in areas such as bulk
purchasing, quality control and primary processing. - Facilitate market driven linkages between
aggregation structures/farmer business groups, wholesalers, processors,
service providers/support services and markets within Uganda. - Conduct regular field visits to project
sites provide hands-on technical assistance and monitoring of business and
financial support service providers. - Coordinate with Gender Specialist to
ensure is mainstreamed in value chain development activities
- Responsible for results measurement and
the facilitation of data collection related to the interventions under
management. - Conduct high quality analysis and produce
reports and other written outputs which are of an appropriate standard. - In addition the Regional Agribusiness
Specialist will perform the following tasks: - Work closely with project stakeholders to
maintain good and harmonious working relations and achieve project
objectives and contracted outputs in accordance with the project schedule
and work plan. - Perform any other duties relevant to this
job description as may be required.
