Coordinator will primarily coordinate and lead the implementation of all
project activities in the designated Refugee settlement area and promote the
adoption of recommended WASH practices in line with Government of Uganda (GoU),
UNHCR and World Vision Uganda (WVU) policies.
The incumbent will identify priority areas and
lead the implementation of the WASH component to ensure technical and
programmatic quality of the project
Assess WASH needs and design appropriate
infrastructure for WASH service delivery
Contribute towards development of programme
implementation approaches, strategies and the overall Country Programme
Strategy
Facilitate stakeholder capacity enhancement
through participatory hygiene and sanitation approaches (CHAST, PHAST etc.)
through which WASH activities can be implemented
Mobilize and facilitate the engagements of
stakeholders during planning and development meetings, workshops and other
fora.
Work closely with other WASH team members to
ensure that the various aspects of the WASH response are integrated, and that
they form part of a coherent public health response.
Technical supervision and management of project
resources
Develop appropriate technical and social
training packages and modules for Hygiene and Sanitation including
Environmental sanitation to enhance the capacity of NRC staff
Participate in recruitment and capacity building
of the project staff in WASH issues
Conduct regular performance review and
evaluation of staff assigned
Document and maintain records pertaining to
training, supplies and infrastructure for giving feedback to management for
decisions and appropriate action in line with WVU policies.
Write up accurate and timely reports pertaining
to all planned activities in the required format and submit to the Project Manager
Participate in monthly / quarterly reflection
meetings with project stakeholders and to address findings from project
monitoring.
Partner with district government, UN agencies,
OPM and other stakeholders to ensure standards, regulations and procedures are
adhered to in line with the SPHERE and government standards.
Ensure that gender, protection, HIV, the
environment, and other important crosscutting concerns are taken into account
in programme design, implementation, and reporting.
Ensure that project activities reflect the needs
of the specific target groups and individuals
Ensure all activities are carried out in
accordance with local government procedures (e.g. site selection) and do not
duplicate or interfere with activities proposed or carried out by the UN or
other NGOs.
Experience:
The ideal candidate for the World Vision WASH
Coordinator job opportunity should hold a University Degree in Public Health, Environmental
Health, Water & Sanitation Engineering or similar discipline.
At least three years’ experience in initiation,
planning and implementation of WASH projects according to internal and national
guidelines, agreements and international standards
Extensive knowledge and experience of working
with rural communities & local government authorities in a remote post
conflict setting
Broad knowledge and understanding of the
principles behind and experience in the implementation of WASH programmes,
CHAST, PHAST amongst others.
Assessment, analytical, and planning skills;
Ability to collect and analyse technical data
including appropriate public health indicators to direct programme
implementation priorities
Strong administrative and management skills with
a willingness to follow relevant policies and procedures
Good communication skills, including ability to
simply present complex technical information
Strong experience in capacity building and
training of staff and target groups, especially in community mobilization,
hygiene promotion
Political and cultural awareness and sensitivity
Ability to understand and integrate gender
issues within a conservative environment and a post conflict setting
Fluency in written and spoken English is
essential; knowledge in local languages desirable
Ability to work well under pressure and in
response to changing needs
Good monitoring and documenting skills.
