in Central and Western Uganda over the next five years. The Project will
improve the health, nutrition, education and psychosocial wellbeing of
vulnerable populations, as well as reduce abuse, exploitation and neglect to a
minimum of 625,000 children and 101,500 households in 17 districts in central
and western Uganda. The program will
improve outcomes for vulnerable children and youth by strengthening the systems
that surround them; caregivers will have greater economic opportunities, which
will increase their resilience and make them less susceptible to shocks; local
government structures and CSOs will be strengthened to provide services
targeting the diverse needs of vulnerable children, and health and social
service agencies will strengthen their coordination and referral systems to
provide integrated care along the continuum of response. The Project is being
implemented by a consortium of partner consisting of CRS being the lead,
Futures Group, ACODEV, Palladium, ANPPCAN and TPO.
Tasked with disseminating gender analysis
findings to CSOs and provide technical support to IPs & CSOs to
operationalize the gender strategy
In charge of integrating and mainstreaming
gender across the 3 Results Area interventions of the SOCY project and provide
expert advice on this to the respective CSO & IP staff
Carry out gender awareness trainings for IPs and
CSOs
Raise awareness on how gender affects boys’ and
girls’ access to, and experience of health related services, and other
development outcomes;
Sharing guidance documents and latest gender
resources (e.g. research articles, program tools, job aids etc.) with program
stakeholders to build their capacity
Provide practical actions to project team (IPs,
CSO, Partner and Local Government staff) on developing innovative interventions
that address gender barriers and help transform unequal gender norms and
dynamics;
The jobholder will also increase dialogue and
exchange about the • importance of gender integration across all design,
implementation, research, monitoring, evaluation, and scale-up activities;
Enhance the capacity of SOCY project team and
consortium members (IPs and CSOs) to recognize how gender influences their
research and program outcomes, and to systematically integrate gender into the
work (through work plans and specific activity plans), taking advantage of
opportunities to address gender-related barriers;
Participate in district discussions related to
gender (potentially during DMC meetings)
Experience:
The ideal candidate for the ACODEV USAID SOCY
Project Gender Specialist job placement should preferably hold a Bachelor’s
Degree in Gender and Development or Humanities;
At least four years’ experience in a similar
position.
The jobholder should be familiar with the GREAT
Gender-sensitive Model; Gender Integration in Programming Approaches, National
Gender Policy, National Children Policy, National Youth Policy & other
relevant Polices and Strategies.
