Project (RLP)
Law, Makerere University. Our Mission is to empower asylum seekers, refugees,
deportees, IDPs and host communities to enjoy their human rights and lead
dignified lives. Refugee Law Project’s work is currently structured in five
thematic areas: Access to Justice; Conflict, Transitional Justice &
Governance (CTJ&G), Gender & Sexuality; Mental Health &
Psychosocial Wellbeing; and Media for Social Change.
Assistant will provide support in counselling at all levels of social care, and
work with individuals who are experiencing personal difficulties, to help them
overcome their problems and to make appropriate changes to their life.
Responsibilities:
- Offer counseling and psychosocial support
to clients, including to those whose needs may not necessarily fall within
the RLP mandate. - The jobholder will also assess the
clients’ mental health needs, risks psychometric testing; - Assist in the receipt and registration new
clients and keeping a detailed record of clients assessed. - Collect data about clients through
interview, case history, psychological tests, and/or observational
techniques; and evaluate data to identify causes of problems and to
determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists. - Carry out counselling sessions with the
clients in need of such services - Build a collaborative working relationship
with the client based on trust and respect; - Explain to clients the relevant internal
procedures as well as client obligations in regard to; nature and scope of
specific interventions, accurate and complete disclosure of information
necessary to determine the intervention etc
- Conduct general assessment of all clients
on matters relating to complaints and other issues that may arise in
regard to their stay in the community(s). - Understand and explain to clients the RLP
mandate in regard to services available and make appropriate external
referrals to identified partners on issues outside of the mandate
- Prepare timely intervention reports,
including maintaining and updating the data base of all managed clients. - Referral and liaison with other agencies
for cases that can be handled internally.
- The ideal candidate for the Refugee Law
Project (RLP) Project Assistant job opportunity must hold a diploma in
Social Work and Social Administration, Social Sciences, Community
Psychology or any related field. - One year of professional experience in
providing counselling support to the disadvantaged - Good listening skills
- High degree of sensitivity and empathy
- Patience and a calm manner
- Ability to cope with emotional situations
- Ability to relate to a wide range of
people - Highly self-motivated, versatile and
adaptable to different cultures and people
