Supervision of Road Projects
Parliament; The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became
operational on 1st July 2008. The
mandate of UNRA is to develop and maintain the national roads network, advise
Government on general roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport
concerns, among others.
Engineer will be responsible for undertaking extensive soils and materials
testing including determination of adequacy of sub grade materials, pavement
layers, stability of existing embankments, and quality control of soils and
materials. The Materials Engineer will further be responsible for checking
suitability of identified borrow pits and execution of geotechnical and
geological quality control tests. In addition Materials Engineer will be
responsible for managing and supervising laboratory tests to ensure all tests
procedures are complied with as well as recording and approving all test
results.
Responsibilities:
Review and update material testing procedures
and guidelines in line with standards and specifications;
Supervise laboratory soils and materials tests
in accordance with the approved soils and materials testing manual;
Supervise construction works to ensure materials
used conform to specifications and standards and approved quality assurance
plan/system;
Manage Risk on soils and materials investigation
and testing activities;
Identify material sources for road projects
(borrow pits & quarry sources);
Respond to audit reports and implement agreed
recommendations within specified time frames;
Develop risk matrix and put in place risk
mitigation measures on materials for construction of roads/ bridge projects.
Experience:
The applicant for the UNRA Materials Engineer
career opportunity should hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials
or Geotechnical Engineering or any other related field;
Master’s Degree in related field is an added
advantage;
Professional registration with the ERB or
relevant Association of professional engineers in the Commonwealth countries is
must;
At least three years’ experience in Soils and
Materials investigations and testing, quality control and supervision of road
works.
High level of integrity;
Computer literacy skills
Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relations;
Ability to deliver accurate results in a timely
manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
