Job Summary: The Market
Extension Worker will contribute towards achieving WVU R&L strategic
direction of Farming as a Business through marketing of bio fortified crops
among the beneficiary households through training farmers in market oriented
production practices, train traders in the best practices intended to increase
sales including; post-harvest management, record keeping and creating awareness
about the nutritional benefits of bio fortified crops with emphasis on the
orange sweet potato and iron rich beans.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
Project planning and implementation
·        
Ensure that MENU project activities are in line
with the R&L strategic direction of local value chain development
·        
Ensure that project activities are integrated
with other sectors and with the District development plan
Capacity building and Training:
·        
Mobilization of farmer groups and conducting
trainings to build capacities on Agriculture & food security improved
methodologies.
·        
Identify and mentor marketing groups to upscale
bio fortified crops production and aggregation.
·        
Conduct farmer training in post-harvest handling
and other related aspects in the value chain for bio fortified crops.
Partnership and Networking:
·        
Identify and build strategic linkages,
relations, collaborations and networks with partners and other stakeholders in
implementation at the District level.
·        
Participate and represent WVU in key donor
engagements and technical working forums at district, region and National level
when applicable
·        
Point of contact for consultation on issues to
do with project marketing and commercialization related issues.
·        
Identify market development opportunities that
present through networks and relationships with other institutions and
organizations and NGOs working in the agriculture and food security.
·        
Facilitate seed fairs in respective communities.



Research, M&E and Documentation:
·        
Effectively document all information related to
project successes, innovations and promising practices and disseminate through
appropriate mechanisms.
·        
Responsible for capturing child wellbeing
indicators related to marketing within the project area
·        
Spear head the project in output & outcome
monitoring processes
·        
Ensure accurate and timely reporting to
HarvestPlus.
·        
Collect data and conduct data analysis on the
impact of farming methods among participating farmers.
Project Management and Coordination:
·        
Track and manage budgets allocated for the
project
·        
Produce timely, accurate, compliant and quality
reports.
·        
Responsible for project assets at ADP &
cluster office
Resource Acquisition:
·        
Identify and initiate viable funding proposals
for resource acquisition to support local value chain interventions.
·        
Actively participate in resource mobilization
through concept papers/proposal writing for fund raising and market them with
donors
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·        
The ideal candidate for the World Vision Market
Extension Worker job opportunity should hold a Diploma or degree in agriculture,
agribusiness, development studies or any other related field.
·        
At least six years’ experience in progressive
crop production and marketing.
·        
Broad knowledge and understanding of the sweet
potato and iron beans production system in Uganda.
·        
Willingness to work and live in rural setting.
