insecurity needs through interventions that get to the root causes and
contributing factors of economic vulnerability. Donors include the United
States Agency for International Development (USAID), DFID, Mastercard
Foundation, WALMART Foundation, Coca Cola Africa Foundation, US Depart of State
(DOS) /PEPFAR, ECHO and Nike Foundation.
Job Summary: The Information
Technology Officer will primarily responsible for complete functionality of the
Mercy Corps Network systems and support as well as trouble shooting. The IT
Officer is responsible for the consistent functionality of all information
technology (database, servers, Internet, equipment, cleaning, power related
issues etc) in the field.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
·        
The jobholder will orient staff on appropriate
use of IT Systems and equipment. Monitor the usage of IT systems to ensure
adherence to the policies.
·        
Keenly monitor misuse of bandwidth and restrict
unwanted websites at server
·        
Ensure that all MC systems are free from pirated
soft wares and only licensed soft wares are used at all times
·        
Diagnoses and repairs software problems or bugs,
assists project staff with technical problems and helps to resolve those
problems and prevent future issues where possible
·        
Ensure anti-viruses are updated periodically on
all systems
·        
Tasked with installing and configuring computer
hardware operating systems and applications as required;
·        
Responsible for troubleshooting system and
network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults as well
as replacing parts as required;
·        
Work closely with the IT Manager in setting up
new users’ accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues;
·        
From time to time conducting electrical safety
checks for the office to ensure all equipment are safe from electrical hazards,
and that power is sufficient to run systems.
·        
Carry out training on computer basics and the
use of MS Office applications. Assist on maintaining or updates applications
needs for programs and operational staff, while also supporting the roll-out of
new applications within MC Uganda;
·        
Ensure back up and archives are made and stored
as scheduled. Review and maintain efficient and effective database backup
procedures to enable the provision of successful and accurate backups so that
any data can be restored quickly and efficiently
·        
Under the guidance of the Country IT Manager,
undertake the repairing and maintaining of Local Area Networks, internet
systems and General IT maintenance including training of MC Field offices
staffs – as per needs outlined by the field offices
·        
Maintain physical inventory of all IT related
items including servers, modems, laptops, desktops, printers, photocopiers etc.
Guide country management on the status of items and all anticipated field
needs.
·        
Maintain an efficient Local Area Network for
Mercy Corps offices in the filed areas. Not to change the Mercy Corps designed
configurations without written approval by the Country IT Manager and the
Operations Director.
·        
Maintain proper documentation of all IT
equipment including; system profiles, warranties and IT accessories stock.
Organize and maintain IT related documents filing system.
·        
Conduct himself/herself both professionally and
personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not
jeopardize its humanitarian mission.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·        
The applicant for the Mercy Corps Information
Technology Officer job opportunity should preferably hold a first degree in
Computer Sciences, Statistics, Information Technology (IT) and/or related area
·        
At least three years’ experience in ICT,
preferably from a reputable organisation
·        
Computer literacy skills
·        
Extensive knowledge of digital and mobile data
configuration
·        
Previous experience in GIS or any other spatial
data demonstration
·        
Experience in both hardware and software
required in setting local area networking (LAN); experience in the
configuration of outlook and other email mail client.
·        
Good working knowledge of internet, proxy, pop
mail, TCPIP settings and windows applications
·        
Previous experience in LINUX is preferred
·        
Experience for upright maintenance of all mails
account
·        
Ability to plan and troubleshoot low maintenance
systems is a must. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain both wireless and cable
connections is required. Must understand, follow and implement existing
policies on IT equipment use and best practices.
·        
Extensive knowledge of electrical work is an
added advantage
·        
Fluent spoken and written English
