following a request in 1988 from the Uganda Government to the British
Government for collaboration on the research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency
Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of
excellence in HIV/AIDS related research. It conducts large-scale
epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials, virological and
immunological research and behavioural studies, and has generated a wealth of
research results that have been used to inform policy and practice that have
led to a large number of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals over
time.
technician is responsible under the direction of the pharmacist for the site
pharmacy operations
Responsibilities:
Take
part in the clinical care of patients in research and ensuring adherence of MRC/UVRI
clinical trials to good pharmacy practice, good clinical practice and the national
medicines control regulatory requirements.
Participate
in the procurement of investigational product and other concomitant medicines
including all drug related items for the clinic and laboratory.
Take
part in the importation, storage, dispensing and accountability of
investigational product and other concomitant medicines at the MRC/UVRI Masaka
pharmacy.
Ensuring
that all study and non-study drugs and products retained after each clinical
study including expired drugs are properly disposed of and destroyed according
to relevant guidelines and Standard Operating procedures.
Participate
in the quantification, stocking and storage of medicines in the
pharmacy.
Carrying
out daily stock update of all concomitant drugs dispensed in the MRC/UVRI
Masaka pharmacy and generate relevant reports from time to time as required.
Participation
in all stock taking activities for drugs and other supplies dispensed at
the MRC/UVRI Masaka pharmacy and ensuring that up to date and accurate stock
records are maintained.
Performing
training and educational functions by assisting the Pharmacist in training
pharmacy staff and other clinical study staff on pharmacy procedures and
other study protocol specific pharmacy requirements.
Participate
in the developing and updating of all relevant pharmacy standard operating
procedures and other related documents. These may include but not
limited to, dispensing guidelines, drug packing guidelines, drug destruction
guidelines, product tracking and prescription guidelines.
Ensuring
that all storage units for investigational products and other medicines
including their temperature monitoring devices are routinely calibrated
and serviced according to relevant guidelines.
Ensuring
that storage conditions for investigational products and other medicines are
continuously monitored and accurate records kept according existing relevant guidelines.
Initiate
and contribute to scientific publications related to the relevant projects
undertaken.
Perform
any other duties as required by management as regards to pharmacy.
Experience:
The applicant for this job placement must hold a
Diploma in pharmacy from a
recognised Institution
Other
relevant training- public health, research methods, ICH/GCP will be of added
advantage
A
minimum of two years of experience in a clinical setting
Previous
exposure and experience in a clinical trial setting will be an added advantage
Comprehensive
and current understanding of common pharmaceutical products
Broad
knowledge and understanding of ICH/GCP guidelines for human research
Computer
Competency including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Proficiency
in Microsoft Dynamics – Navision Package is added advantage.
