The National Animal Genetics Resources Centre and Data Bank,
(NAGRC&DB) is a body corporate under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal
Industry and Fisheries whose mandate is to take a leading role in establishing
a comprehensive National Animal Breeding Programme in Uganda.
Job Summary: The ICT
Assistant will primarily ensure that NAGRC&DB has a stable Information
Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure that meets their current and
future ICT requirements in a timely and professional manner.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
·        
Inspects ICT tools procured/equipment and verify
if they meet the requirement and standards
·        
Establishes long term needs for the information
system to promote the increased proliferation and ambitious application of ICT
within the institution.
·        
Guides the management on the appropriate ICT
strategies
·        
Offers technical support on all matters of
procurement, utilization and maintenance of ICT hardware and software for the
organization
·        
Establishes and guides the Institution on
technical installation, priorities, standards, procedures, management and telecom
equipment and systems
·        
Maintains confidentiality, security and reliability
of the information systems
·        
The ICT Assistant will maintain all the Institution’s
computer hard ware and software in accordance with the established National
Standards
·        
Regularly reviews, designs, implements and
maintains sound Local Area Network and Wide Area Network systems for the
Institution
·        
Provides capacity building and ICT support to
institutional staff
·        
Takes part in deployment of new or upgrade
Information Technology and infrastructure
·        
Installs and performs minor repairs on hardware,
software, and peripheral equipment and provides on-going support of client
technology
·        
Configures and installs desktop PCs, peripheral
equipment, laptops and other mobile devices
·        
Diagnoses and resolves client workstation and
mobile device hardware and software issues
·        
Manages inventory of Computer Asset equipment to
ensure the timely entry in the inventory.
·        
Ensures data protection and backup of user data
on institutional servers
·        
The incumbent manages and regularly updates the
institutional website and the organizational email systems
·        
Performs any other official duties as may be
assigned by the Supervisor.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The applicant should preferably hold a Diploma
in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information systems, Computer
engineering or any related field from a recognized institution of higher
learning.
·        
Two years of experience in an IT environment.
·        
Broad working knowledge of telecommunications
technologies (wireless networks) and Network Architectures for both Local Area
Networks and Wide Area Networks
·        
Excellent working knowledge of Internet
technologies, including: TCP/IP suite of protocols; Internet security; Internet
routing; Voice over Internet Protocol)
·        
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows
Operating Systems configuration and with some knowledge in windows server 2008
administration
·        
Comprehensive working knowledge in computer
networking, computer systems hardware, software repair and maintenance with
compliance to new computer technologies
·        
Extensive knowledge in web management, content
management systems with working knowledge in HTML and any of (Joomla, Drupal, WordPress).
·        
Possess basic knowledge in database management with oracle/sql/mysql.
·        
Excellent communication and inter-personal
skills. Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment
·        
Working knowledge of animal science and breeding
as an advantage.
·        
Age: Between 25-55 years
