Project (RLP)
Law, Makerere University. Our Mission is to empower asylum seekers, refugees,
deportees, IDPs and host communities to enjoy their human rights and lead
dignified lives. Refugee Law Project’s work is currently structured in five
thematic areas: Access to Justice; Conflict, Transitional Justice &
Governance (CTJ&G), Gender & Sexuality; Mental Health &
Psychosocial Wellbeing; and Media for Social Change.
Coordinator will be responsible for managing the daily activities and duties at
the Office, handles operational and financial matters in order to provide an
excellent service and further develop relationships with the related
institutions including NGOs, CBOs, victim and survivor groups and educational
communities.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and support refugee groups that
fall under the program for their full and effective functioning - Coordinate trainings and capacity building
workshops within the program - Carry out home visits for assessment and
provide home visit reports - Carry out Counseling and Psychotherapy for
individuals, couples, families and groups in different settings like the
office, homes, schools, hospitals, prisons and the community for their
psychosocial and mental health wellbeing. - Carry out Information sessions with
different groups and communities of refugees, asylum seekers and the host
community for purposes of passing on relevant and pertinent information as
regards the program - Keep proper records for all the clients
handled - Follow-up and support clients in different
settings like offices, hospitals, schools, courts, prisons to enable them access
necessary services - Conduct the assessment and referral of
clients with in the program - Provide psychosocial education , training
and capacity building for clients, Stakeholders as well as Organization
staff - Record and update client testimonies from
time to time - Prepare and submit activity reports
- Carryout community dialogues and other
strategies for peace promotion and conflict resolution among refugees,
asylum seekers, other forced migrants and the host community.
- Build new, maintain and strengthen
existing working relations and partnerships with different stakeholders
for the program - Assess and refer clients to different
service providers outside the organization - Attend stakeholder and partner
coordination meetings from time to time
- Actively participate in existing research
projects within the program - Carry out research on topical and emerging
issues within the program and produce research papers and/or working
papers to that effect
- Continuously advocate on issues affecting
refugees, asylum seekers and other forced migrants using different
advocacy strategies like the media, community and public dialogues, video
documentaries among others. - Prepare functions to promote the rights of
vulnerable categories of refugees, asylum seekers and other forced
migrants like International day celebrations, campaign weeks among others
- Develop concept notes on new ideas and
activities of the program - Fundraise for continuing and new
activities within the program
- Lead the programme staff in preparation of
quarterly work plans (Programme and Individual) - Consolidate individual reports into
monthly and quarterly reports for the Office. - Ensure appropriate workload for programme
staff - Provide continuous leadership,
supervision, training and development of programme staff ensuring an
effective and motivated team. - Work closely with the Monitoring Team to
ensure that periodic programme reviews are executed - Ensure that programme staff account for
funds advanced to them for activities. - Work in liaison with the HR unit in
conducting performance appraisals and ensure competency and training gaps
are addressed. - Coordinate fundraising efforts for the
programme - Represent the RLP in Conflict,
Transitional Justice Fora
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Refugee Law
Project (RLP) Field Coordinator job opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s degree
in international law, international relations, political science, social
sciences or related fields of discipline. - A minimum of three years’ experience
delivering frontline community services in a refugee and/or newcomer
related setting and working with community based agencies. - Solidly reliable with strong attention to
timeliness - Excellent communication skills (both
interpersonal and with supervisor) - Keen attention to detail and be truly
organized - Possess a strong sense of personal
initiative and be able to work independently in a fast – paced office. - Keen interest in international, refugee,
social justice and humanitarian issues - Broad knowledge of project management and
work with a not for profit and NGO is an added advantage - Ability and willingness to travel and work
in remote areas in challenging circumstance - Be a self-motivated, versatile and adaptable
to different cultures and people
