Coordinator Participatory Democracy and Governance
countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. ActionAid’s mission
is to work with the poor and the ActionAid Uganda (AAU), a national development
organization registered under the laws of Uganda and with a local Board.
Campaign Officer will implement a young people-focused participatory democracy
and governance program to ensure quality and impact in line with AAU Strategy
and relevant organizational policies.
Responsibilities:
reports that address community priority on poverty issues in line with the unit
plan and CSP.
Offer technical guidance to staff and partners
in the implementation of governance and young people’s programs
Conduct periodic monitoring visits and produce
reports on field me activity implementation at the LRP.
Identify community and district level advocacy
issues to inform national and international policy influencing.
Consolidate community priorities and support in
the development of strategic and implementation plans during planning and
budgeting periods.
Deliberately drum up CSO support towards advocacy
and influencing issues affecting young people and communities in areas we work.
Produce activity reports, monthly, quarterly,
half, year plans and share with IASL unit
Support the development of innovative governance
and young people and strategies including project plans and budgets.
Organize and participate in regular review and
reflection processes
to implement me activities in line with the partnership MOU’s, LRP plans and the
CSP
Provide technical support and strengthen the
capacity of staff and partners for quality programmingin governance in line
with CSP and AAI/U young people’s engagement strategy
Together with the partnership officer, support
in the identification of partner capacity gaps and the development of partner
growth and development plans in young people’s.
Conduct Support visits to partners and review
their reports, in line with their plans, budgets and funding guidelines
Participate in the implementation, monitoring
and evaluation of partner capacity development plan- through partner visits;
Partner appraisals and Organizational Self-Assessments.
Support partner’s Institutional development
processes e.g. support to hold AGMs, register with sub-county and district
authorities and ensure functioning of governance structures
Mobilize partners to participate in the half and
annual review and reflections to inform me implementation
organizational policies:
Identify funding gaps in line with the
fundraising guidelines; respond to call for proposals by submitting concept
notes.
Identify potential/ fundable areas and develop
concept notes and proposals in line with donor requirements and fundraising
strategy
Offer technical support to partners and staff in
the development of concept notes and quality proposals under governance unit
Develop and periodically update the governance
unit led funding and planning tables
Provide technical support to donor queries and request
for information as requested
and provide support to respective units in line with the CSP and organizational
Policies
Support the development of annual targets and
indicators for the governance unit in liaison with IASL team.
Participate in monitoring and provision of
guidance to the Cluster teams and partners on management and update of the MIS
relating to governance outcomes and targets.
Monitoring performance of governance and young
people’s programs/projects in line with the AAI/U M&E guidelines.
Ensure the collection of evidence for policy
influencing and campaign’s reporting mechanisms
Monitor trends and relevant changes and
developments in the external environment on governance to inform intervention
planning
Ensure collection, and regular uploading of data
on MIS for the governance unit
generation of evidence for policy advocacy and campaigns in line with the CSP Campaign
strategies and AA theory of change
Plan and support research initiatives and ensure
dissemination of research findings
In collaboration with the policy and campaigns
unit to develop policy briefs for easy dissemination of research findings
Work in close collaboration with the policy and
campaigns unit, develop, implement, monitor and report on specific campaigns
and young people’s agenda.
Contribute and develop policy statements
relating to specific governance and young people’s issues for policy influencing.
Document, simplify and share evidence generated
from the field for policy and advocacy work.

Plan, organize and participate in policy
influencing governance related events and campaigns with emphasis on supporting
the formation and enhancing capacity of young people’s and women coalitions and
movements.
Participate in relevant governance sector/
cluster meetings.
Organize innovative and young people friendly
awareness raising events on relevant governance policy issues.
Organize governance related campaigns with focus
of young people’s engagement.
Attend meetings and fora at local, national and
international levels related to governance and young people’s work
stories of change, newsletter, results, impact and learning in line with
Communication strategy and other AAU/I related guidelines.
Write articles and stories of change to profile
governance and young people’s work in newsletters and other spaces
Work with the partners, young people’s movements
and Cluster Coordinators to develop innovative interventions to promote and
sustain governance work.
Disseminate and influence uptake of
organizational positions in different fora at all levels.
Contribute to the development of knowledge
products of the unit and promotion of AAUwork through multiple social media
platforms for enhanced reach, profile and impact
levels in line with AAU/I guidelines and frameworks
Periodically map and share formal and informal
networks and coalitions on governance and youth in line with AAU guidelines
Identify, prioritize, nurture and contribute to
the development of capacities of networks, alliances and coalitions in line
with AAU/I capacity development guidelines.
Identify new and strategic partnerships for
networking and collaboration
Provide feedback and monitor the implementation
of agreed actions from networks and coalitions
Respond to and follow up information
requirements from networks, coalitions and alliances at all levels.
Organize and participate in strategic actions
and events within AAI federation, civil society, and citizen formations at the
different levels
Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Action Aid
International Youth and Campaign Officer job placement should preferably hold a
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Governance
and Democracy, Human rights or any other Humanities from a accredited
academic institution.
Possession
of a relevant post graduate diploma qualification and training in Human rights
based approaches, Youth programming and/ or approaches, human rights, democracy
and governance is an added advantage.
At least two to three years of working experience, with young people, their
organisations, movements and campaigns
