Rehabiliation and Expansion of Facility Storage will manage UHSC planned
improvement of health facility storage capacity in up to 30 selected high
volume Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) health facilities. The storage expansion
and improvement efforts will range from minor renovation to installation of
prefabricated storage space (e.g., “storage-in-a-box-SIB”) in facilities with
severely constrained space and installing store shelving. Rehabilitation and
new storage options will be done in collaboration with Ministry of Health
engineers, district engineers, and other district authorities.
Responsibilities:
Keenly review and detail rehabilitation needs
for identified health facilities stores
Develop appropriate technical drawings for
rehabilitation needs at health facilities
Get technical and environmental approvals from
the districts and ministry of health engineers for rehabilitation of health
facility stores
Develop appropriate bill of quantities for
rehabilitation needs at health facilities
Support contracting process for a firm to
undertake rehabilitation of selected high volume sites stores
Manage contracted firm(s) to ensure renovations
are executed within acceptable time, and is of high quality and within budget
Regular monitor renovation sites
Coordinate with the district and ministry of
health engineers to ensure rehabilitation works adhere to national and district
standards
Final Inspection and approval of renovated
facility stores
Obtain site approval for SIB at selected
facilities from district and/ or hospital administration.
Review and obtain technical and environmental
approval for SIB from district engineers, ministry of health engineers, and
national drug authority. This is to ensure it complies with technical
requirements for a medical warehouse and meets with good warehouse and
distribution practices
Management installation of SIB at selected
health facilities
Work closely with SIB supplier to review any
cost variabilities during the cost of implementation and advise UHSC project
accordingly
Work in liaison with district engineers, conduct
final inspection of installed SIB units before handover to facilities and
districts
Assist in all other tasks found necessary
related to implementation of SIB and renovations activities

Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Management Sciences
for Health (MSH) Engineer job opportunity should be a registered civil
engineer. Possession of a post graduate qualification in structural engineering
would be an added advantage
A minimum of eight years’ experience and
knowledge in structural design
Experience overseeing multiple construction
sites
Previous experience in design and installation
of prefabricated structures
Previous experience with USAID would be an
advantage
Computer literacy i.e. proficiency in Microsoft
Office software, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Must demonstrate personal attributes such as
loyalty and integrity in addition to being successful in challenging
environments and difficult situations, which is inherent in this position.
Fluency in English is required
