Manager Breeding
(NAGRC&DB) is a body corporate under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal
Industry and Fisheries whose mandate is to take a leading role in establishing
a comprehensive National Animal Breeding Programme in Uganda.
Technical Manager/ Breeding will assist the Technical Manager/ Breeding and
Reproduction in the acquisition, application and management of appropriate
breeding and reproduction technologies to enhance the animal quality and
multiply its numbers
Responsibilities:
Supports the planning and supervision of
implementation of unit budgets, projects and programs, Sources for and monitors
application of animal breeding technologies and advices the Technical Manager/
Breeding and Reproduction accordingl
Reviews, interprets and reports on recorded data
arising out of animal breeding and activities,
Monitors and reports on compliance of animal
breeding centres to breeding standards and practices and advises on appropriate
action where breaches occur
Evaluates and makes recommendations on new
breeding bio-technologies genetic materials,
Coordinates the breeding of founder brood stock
of fish
Monitors, evaluates and reports on rearing of
sire studs for production of semen and dams for artificial insemination to
multiply breeding stock.
Provides support in monitoring of compliance of
the Centre farms established breeding and recording protocols.
Supervises and appraises performance of staff in
the unit
Perform any other official duties as assigned by
the Supervisor.
Experience:
The applicant should preferably hold a Master’s
degree in Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Science or their equivalent from a
recognized degree awarding institution.
Specialized post-graduate training in animal
breeding from a recognized institution
A minimum of eight years of related experience
in animal industry is a prerequisite with three years experience at Senior
level in Government or recognized institution.
Age Limit: 35-55 years
