Health Integration to Enhance Health Services in East Central Uganda Project
(USAID/Uganda RHITES-EC) whose aim is to support the implementation of a
comprehensive integrated investment in regional
health, nutritional assistance and HIV/AIDS programs. The five-year
project targets 11 districts in East Central Uganda with an estimated total
population of 4.1 million through a district-based integrated package of
quality health, nutrition, HIV / AIDS and child development services.
Responsibilities:
Provide support in the scale-up of VMMC through
conduct of camps and outreaches as well as technically supporting the static
site VMMC teams to achieve static site targets.
Work with the district VMMC focal person, the
static site VMMC focal person, the DHE and DHT, the Cluster coordinator and
other cluster team members to come up with comprehensive infection prevention
and waste management plans.
Mobilize supplies and logistics from either the
regional or cluster office to enable the smooth running of camps (Vehicles,
VMMC infection prevention and waste disposal commodities/supplies, relevant
documentation tools for data capture) and conduct periodic forecasts of VMMC
medical equipment, supplies and other sundries, with the aim of ensuring
adequate stock
Provide pre-operative nursing care including
client’s body preparation, taking medical history, taking and recording vital
signs and ensuring that all SMC clients have been consented for SMC in line
with MoH minimum standards for SMC. Conduct VMMC
outreaches and/or camps at facilities / communities while being keen to offer
the VMMC services delivery package that includes: providing HIV testing
services; TT vaccination; providing HIV prevention (and other reproductive
health) messages to VMMC recipients; circumcising eligible clients.
Implement infection control and waste management
procedures during mobile outreaches and camps in line with MoH health care
waste management guidelines as well as instituting continuous quality
improvement initiatives aimed at ensuring safety of place and person.
Carry out immediate post-operative and
subsequent scheduled follow-ups of VMMC service recipients as per the national
standards with the aim of identifying and managing any resultant adverse events
following surgery and immunization.
Record and maintain client’s information on SMC
forms and submit periodic reports to the supervisor.
Build and maintain a database of VMMC providers
existing at supported health facilities, as well as an inventory of the VMMC
providers from the national pool who can be engaged in the camps and
outreaches.
Provide mentorship, support supervision and
training to health facility staff in nursing procedures for SMC in the attached
clusters and facilities in line with MoH minimum standards for VMMC
Take part in documenting best practices for VMMC
and writing abstracts aimed at improving service delivery and advancing the
frontiers of knowledge.
Experience:
The applicants for the USAID RHITES-EC VMMC
Assistant Circumciser job opportunity must hold a Diploma in Nursing from a
recognized institution.
VMMC skills based certificate from a recognized
institution
One year of experience in conducting VMMC camps
and outreaches
Good knowledge of current HTS and VMMC policy
and guidelines
Good communication or interpersonal skills is
desirable.
Ability and willingness to travel within the
supported districts.
