Environment Inspector
NEMA/ADV/EXT/33/2017
under the National Environment Act Cap. 153 to promote and ensure sound
environmental management practices for sustainable development in Uganda.
Environment Inspector (Audits & Monitoring) will provide support in
environmental audits and monitoring function of the Authority.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out post ESIA inspections to ensure
implementation of mitigation measures; - Quality assure the integrity of
environmental monitoring equipment; - Ensure compliance with environmental
legislation and verify the accuracy of environmental impact predictions; - Provide compliance assistance to the
regulated communities where required; - Initiate the development of environmental
standards in priority areas of concern including coordination with lead
agencies and institutions in development of environmental standards; - Develop environmental audit protocols,
guidelines and regulations in consultations with the legal Department; - Verify or confirm compliance with
environment regulations; - Work closely with the Legal Department in
developing environmental audit guidelines and regulations; - Conduct inspection of sites threatened by
degradation; - Update and maintain a register (database)
on audit practitioners and audits done; - Keenly review audit and ESIA reports;
- Develop training programmes and coordinate
training in environmental standards and audits for MDAs and private
sector; - Perform any other duties assigned.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the NEMA Senior
Environment Inspector (Audits & Monitoring) job placement should hold
a Bachelor’s degree in any of the
following: Environmental and/or Natural Resource Management, Natural Science, Environmental
Engineering, Mechanical/Civil Engineering, Industrial Chemistry or
Chemical Engineering. - Possession
of a Master’s degree in any of the above. - A minimum of five (5) years work
experience; 2 of which should be in audits and monitoring. - Extensive knowledge and understanding of Environmental Laws
of Uganda; - Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills; - Good
morals and high level of integrity; - High
level of confidentiality;
