About US:
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) was established
under the National Environment Act Cap. 153 to promote and ensure sound
environmental management practices for sustainable development in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Principal
Environment Inspector will provide supervision, guideline and direction of
audits and inspections of the authority.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Develop mechanisms/strategies on
    environmental inspections and audits ( environmental monitoring)
  • Tasked with monitoring the effects of the
    environment of any activities carried out on land, water and air.
  • In charge of continuous assessment of
    production and engineering processes of enterprises and their strategies
    for minimization of waste generation at source.
  • Implementing training programs for
    environmental auditors and inspectors.
  • In charge of managing inspections and
    monitoring activities of inspectors and auditors from sectoral
    inspections.
  • Ensuring restoration and compensation of
    damage of liabilities caused.
  • Offering technical advice to the authority
    on compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Preparing and submitting periodic status
    reports.
  • Perform any other duties as may be
    assigned.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the NEMA Principal
    Environment Inspector job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the
    following: Physical or Natural Science, Mechanical Engineering,
    Petroleum Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • Possession
    of a Master’s degree in any of the above
  • A minimum of eight years’ experience in
    management of environmental related programme, four of which should have
    been at senior level.
  • Good supervisory Skills;
  • Strategic planning skills;
  • Team building skills;
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal, communication and
    reporting skills;
