Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
People Management: Work in the team to achieve desired business
results through continuous improvement and mentoring activities.
Legal Advisory:
  • Provide legal advice to the Management and
    business units of the Bank in given assignments
  • Review the Bank’s standard forms and
    documentation to ensure completeness and to simplify governance and legal
    processes where possible
  • Continuously examine and appraise changes
    in the legal and regulatory environment that may impact on the Bank’s
    performance.
Legal Risk Management:
  • Provide legal advice to the management and
    business units of the Bank
  • Continuously examine and appraise changes
    in the legal, regulatory and governance environment that may impact on the
    Bank’s performance
Company Secretariat:
  • Ensure local governance structure is in
    line with local requirements and group standards
  • Build and maintain good relationships with
    members of the Board of Directors.
  • Provide efficient corporate secretarial
    services to stakeholders
General:
  • Adhere to the bank’s established risk
    management processes and procedures.
  • Ensure proper record keeping and version
    control (whether electronically or in hard copy);
  • As appropriate, identify any new
    developments or current requirements in laws which necessitate an
    improvement to the bank’s standard legal documentation



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Stanbic Bank
    Legal & Governance Officer job opportunity should hold an LLB or its
    equivalent from a recognised institution,
  • Possession of a Post Graduate Diploma and
    Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre of Uganda or a recognized
    institution
  • Familiarity with all statutory, regulatory
    and supervisory requirements that impact on the operations of the Bank
  • One to two years of Governance & Legal
    experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Corporate
    Governance
  • Legal Knowledge
  • Legal Advisory interpretation
  • Broad knowledge if Dispute Resolution-
    Court Processes and Procedures
  • Legal Administration
  • Financial Industry Regulatory framework
