Job Summary: The Gender
Specialist will assist the Emergency Response Coordinator (ERC) as
multi-sectorial emergency relief projects continue to be implemented. The
successful candidate will be expected to provide strategic and relevant inputs,
mainstream gender equality across all projects, and advice on gender across all
programs and contribute to both the development and delivery of high quality
programs that have, at their center, a commitment to ensure that both women and
men benefit equally.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Support
    SP Uganda and field teams with the mainstreaming of gender equality in
    program development and design, including proposals.
  • Work
    closely with the livelihood and WASH project teams and identify strategic
    actions to be undertaken to improve the quality of program
    implementation from gender perspective.
  • Actively
    contribute to and ensure gender equality mainstreaming and across all
    areas of program implementation, including training materials, monitoring,
    operations, policies, procedures and implementation of project
    activities that target women and girls within the scope of the project.
  • Assist
    the field teams with gender analysis throughout the project life cycle
    with key findings and actionable recommendations integrated into programming.
    Distil and document lessons learnt for use in future programming.
  • Maintain
    an up-to-date and thorough understanding of gender issues related to
    project components.
  • Facilitate
    gender trainings with program staff and program stakeholders.
  • Work
    closely with National sector Program Managers and Project Managers
    to ensure that gender considerations are assessed and accounted for.
  • Guide
    and advise field office and teams with the development of tools to
    increase the participation of girls or to remove existing barriers
    and create equal participation.
  • Ensure
    that program reporting captures challenges and successes around gender
    equality.
  • Renders
    support in the development of gender sensitive data collection tools.
  • Provide
    support in the collection and analysis of age and gender-disaggregated
    data.
  • Ensure
    knowledge sharing, documentation and dissemination of good practices on
    gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
  • Monitor
    and report on the implementation of the gender action plan, and
  • Offer
    technical advice on appropriate gender sensitive indicators in the
    performance measurement framework and support M&E colleagues in
    reporting of program results/outputs and objectives against agreed
    indicators.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The Gender Specialist must hold a
    Bachelor’s Degree in Gender, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Rural
    Development and/or any other related field; a Post Graduate study is
    desirable
  • A minimum of three years’ experience of
    managing a gender portfolio.
  • The applicant must have experience in
    Project Cycle Management and Appraisal, Monitoring and Evaluation with a
    gender lens, have experience in designing and conducting gender analyses,
    and designing and facilitating trainings on gender issues and mainstreaming
    techniques.
  • The successful candidate should be an
    influential communicator with excellent written and verbal skills in
    English and speaks at least one local language.
  • Highly analytical and problem solving
    skills and have the ability to effectively network with a wide range of
    relevant actors.
