under the National Environment Act Cap. 153 to promote and ensure sound
environmental management practices for sustainable development in Uganda.
will support the accounting and financial management function of the Authority.
Responsibilities:
- Enter invoices and payment vouchers into
the computerized accounts system - Carry out bank reconciliations on a
monthly basis; - Check vouchers submitted for payment by
the accounts assistants; - Prepare and submit periodical expenditure
reports to the Senior Accountant; - Prepare and submit monthly tax returns to
URA, and NSSF respectively; - Ensure correct stock records are kept by
the Stores Assistant; - Supervise preparations of financial
transactions by the Accounts Assistants; - Maintain the debtors and creditors’
ledgers; - Actively contribute to the production of
the trial balance through entering information to the system and carrying
out all necessary reconciliations; - Reconcile staff accounts;
- Prepare and record financial transactions
in the books of account manually or electronically; - Produce monthly trial balance and submit
to Senior Accountant; - Maintain staff advances, suppliers’
ledger, advances ledger; - Prepare reconciliation statements on all
bank accounts; - Maintain vote book as required by
Government; - Responsible for safe custody of books of
accounts and financial documents; - mentor and supervise the Accounts
Assistants and ensure that financial transactions are accurately and
timely recorded, reconciled and maintained in order to provide support to
financial and management reporting; - Perform any other tasks assigned.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the NEMA
Accountant job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following: Business
Administration (Accounting option), Commerce (Accounting option)
from a recognized institution. - Partial
Professional Qualification in Accountancy. - A minimum of four years of experience in Finance and Accounting;
- Hands-on
experience with accounting packages such as Sun systems, Navision, Tally, Pastel. - Ability to work as a team.
- Interpersonal skills and communication
skills with the ability demonstrate, analyze and reporting skills. - High degree of precision
- Proven ability to meet timelines and
handle multiple tasks simultaneously. - Computer literacy skills
